Thunderstorm washes out racing and Capitol Boiler Works Night activities; $10,000 to win USA 100 up next

Jamaica, VA – A late-afternoon thunderstorm swamped Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway forcing the cancellation of the evening’s scheduled Capitol Boiler Works “Kid in Uniform” Night.

The rainout was the eighth of the 2008 season.

“The storm that rolled through here was just too much for the track to handle. With the forecast for more and with a line of strong storms on radar headed our way we had no other choice than to postpone Round 3 of the Victory Lap Late Model $25,000 Challenge presented by BB&T,” commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer.

Wit the rainout Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway turns its attention to the much anticipated running of the 29th Annual Miss Utility USA 100™ presented by the US Army. The 2008 edition of the event will be co-sanctioned by the Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) and the Carolina Clash bringing together the top two touring series on the east coast.

The 29th annual edition of the USA 100™ will go “Topless”; however, it is not mandatory for competitors to remove their roofs to compete.

A strong contingent of local and regional drivers will compete for the top prize. Previous USA 100TM winners Jason Covert and Chuck Harper; Ricky Weeks, Dennis “Rambo” Franklin, Jeff Smith along with national and regional powerhouse drivers like Tim Fuller, Booper Bare, Ricky Elliott, 2006 winner Jeremy Miller, G.R. Smith are all expected to be on hand.

Competitor gates for Saturday, August 9th will open at 3pm with spectator gates opening at 4pm. On track activities will begin at 6pm with hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday August 9th: Super Late Models USA 100 (100 total laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (25 Laps) and Budweiser Modifeds (25 Laps). MACS and Carolina Clash Competitors will run time trials, qualifying races and feature. Sportsman and Modified divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features.

Adult admission is just $30, Senior and Military $25, Students 13 –17 yrs old $12, Children 7 – 12 yrs old $5 and Children 6 and under free. The speedway will offer a $5 off discount coupon on its website good for any adult, senior or military ticket.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track affiliate, is a ½ mile dirt oval track located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
