Chandler Chevrolet Fan Appreciation Night and $5 Admission this Saturday May 30th

Jamaica, VA – Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway returns to action this Saturday May 30th and will host Chandler Chevrolet “Fan Appreciation” Night with everyone enjoying $5 admission. See the Victory Lap Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, New Generation Racing Sprint Car and Limited Stock divisions. Come experience the raw, pure excitement that is dirt racing!
Competitor gates for Saturday, May 30th will open at 3pm with spectator gates opening at 4pm. On track activities will begin at 6:15pm with hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday May 30th: Victory Lap Late Models (35 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (25 Laps); New Generation Racing Sprint Cars (25 Laps); and the VMS Limited Stocks (20 Laps). All divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features.
Adult admission is just $5, Senior and Military $5, Students 13 –17 yrs old $5, Children 7 – 12 yrs old $5 and Children 6 and under free.

POINT RACES: When the Victory Lap Late Model competitors hit the track this Saturday night Ben Bowie of Brandywine, MD and rookie Davis Lipscombe of Mechanicville, VA will be trying to break the tie atop the points. Bowie enjoys a win thus far in 2009, but Lipscombe looked extremely good in his debut. Rounding out the top five are Anthony Kincaid of Hayes, VA, Stephen Evens of Tyner, NC and Brett Carlton of Mechanicville, VA (by way of Florida).
The New Generation Racing Sprint Car division also has a tie at the top with rookie Kyle Pruitt of Ijamsville, PA and defending Champion Daren Bolac of Moyock, NC sharing the top spot. Last time out Pruitt was able to get his very first sprint car victory with Bolac crossing the line second. Rounding out the top five are Eric Keck of Providence Forge, VA, rookie Ryan Price of Ashland, VA and Mary Anne Williams of Chester, VA.
In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division two familiar faces sit in the top two spots as defending Champion Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA holds a four point advantage over Roger Jamerson of Mechanicsville, VA. As always these two competitors will be battling it down to the wire for victories and ultimately the championship. Rounding out the top five are Todd Traylor of King William, VA, Kenny Moreland of Waldorf, MD and Tommy Upshaw of West Point, VA.
Another rookie is at the top of the Limited Stock Car division points as Sam Archer of Waldorf, MD holds a one point advantage over former Charger Champion James Givens of new Kent, VA. Rounding out the top five are Lee Overstreet of Manakin Sabot, VA, Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA and Wesley Givens of new Kent, VA.

RAISING MONEY: During intermission of the Paul Sawyer Memorial for the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, Virginia Motor Speedway auctioned off a helmet signed by all the Outlaws and donated by Mary Anne Williams to benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Bidding was hot and heavy and when it was all said and done the helmet was auctioned off for $2500.00. Williams, a breast cancer survivor herself, set up a display and also collected donations from the very generous fans in attendance.

IT’S ALMOST MUDDIN’ TIME: If you like mud bogs put June 20th on your calendar as The Pit @ VMS will host the first of three mud bog events for the 2009 season. Mud trucks will compete in several classes in the 200 foot mud pit and 1600 horsepower mud dragsters will cover the 200 foot mud sling pit in less than 3 seconds. Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is a ½ mile dirt oval track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
