Billy Hubbard Holds off Davis Lipscombe to Take the Pro Late Model Win; Causey, Butler, and Brooks Also Visit Victory Lane

Jamaica, VA – Billy Hubbard of Cobbs Creek, VA, held off Davis Lipscombe of Mechanicsville, VA, in the Victory Lap Pro Late Model 30 lap feature at Virginia Motor Speedway to become the sixth different winner of the 2023 season. Lipscombe got to the outside of Hubbard three times between laps fifteenth and seventeen before Hubbard moved up into Lipscombe’s line and found it to his liking as well. Hubbard would stretch out his lead and go on to take the win. “We have been trying so hard to get to victory lane; once Lipscombe got to my outside, I moved up and found his line worked for my car as well,” commented an emotional Hubbard in Virginia Is for Racing Lovers victory lane. Derek Magee and Hubbard led the field to green, with Hubbard taking the lead out of turn 2. Behind him, the battle for second went 3-wide between Magee, Lipscombe and point leader Jeremy Pilkerton. Magee would emerge with the spot, with Lipscombe working the high line, looking for a way around him. On lap 4, it looked like Libscombe would take the spot, but Magee would defend the spot until Lipscombe rocketed by him in turns one and two on lap 9 to take second. Lipscombe would then set out to reel in Hubbard, who had almost a full straight lead. By lap 17, Lipscombe had closed that distance and was looking to get by for the lead. Using the high line, Lipscombe would get side-by-side with Hubbard for two laps before falling back into second place. Hubbard went on to take the win, with Davis Lipscombe, Derek Magee, Jeremy Pilkerton, and Corey Almond rounding out the top five. In the Budweiser Modified 25-lap feature, Bret Hamilton and Chase Butler led the field to green. Heading into turn two, the battle for the lead went 4-wide briefly between Hamilton, Butler, Russell Erwin, and Michael Pappas. Hamilton would lead Butler into turn 3, where Butler put a slide job on him to take the lead out of turn 4. On lap 9, Erwin began looking to the outside of Butler for the lead. The two traded the lead back and forth for the next three laps before Erwin rocketed around Butler for the lead on lap 13 to take the lead. Erwin was pulling away when his car slowed in turn 2, ending his night, handing the lead back to Butler. Once out front, Butler paced the field with the battle for second raging behind him. Butler would go on to take his fourth win of the season, followed to the checkers by Jeff Solinger, Bret Hamilton, Tim Schulte, and Doug Penny. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25-lap feature, Steve Causey of Smithfield, VA, came from his fourth-place starting spot to grab the lead out of turn 4. Once out front, Causey pulled away from the field and the battle for second. On lap 7 behind him, Hunter Wright, Brett Adkins, and Matt Meads went 3-wide in turn 2 for second. Wright would wrestle the spot away and try to catch the leader, Causey. Causey would go on to take his first win of 2023. Rounding out the top five were Hunter Wright, Adam Breeden, Brett Adkins, and Matt Meads. In the Joe Hudson’s Collision Centers Limited Stock 20 lap feature, it only took Johnny Brooks of Aylett, VA, eight laps to take the lead from his eighth-place starting position. It wasn’t as easy as it looked, as Brooks had a tough battle with Brian Maxey on this way to the front. But once in third, he began picking off the top two drivers one at a time. First Raymond Harper, then leader Cory Bradley. Once Brooks took the lead, he pulled away for his sixth win of the season, followed by Corey Bradley, Raymond Harper, Trent Clemans, and Justin Pullen. The speedway will return to racing on Saturday, September 16, to host Joe Hudson’s Collision Center Championship Night and the final week of Dirt Series Championship weekly racing. The night will feature the Victory Lap Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified, and Collision One Limited Stock divisions in action. Champions will be crowned in all four divisions. Speedway to Host Week 11 of Dirt Series Championship Weekly Racing Tonight, Saturday, August 26th

Jamaica, VA – Virginia Motor Speedway will return to weekly racing tonight, Saturday, August 26th, and host week 11 of Dirt Series Championship weekly racing featuring the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified, and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in some exciting side-by-side action. On Saturday, August 26th, competitor gates will open at 3 PM, with spectator gates opening at 5 PM. On-track activities will begin at 5:45 PM for hot laps. Features will start at 7 PM. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday will be the Victory Pro Late Models (30 Laps), Budweiser Modifieds (25 Laps), Truckin Thunder Sportsman (25 laps), and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars (20 laps). All divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features. Admission price for adults is $15, seniors (60+) / military (active or retired) $12, students 13 – 17 years old $10, and children 12 and under admitted free. Pit passes will be $25. Corey Almond and Derek Magee Split Pro Late Model Wins; Brett Adkins, Bret Hamilton, and Johnny Brooks all Return to Victory Lane

Jamaica, VA – Corey Almond of Appomattox, VA, and Derek Magee of Millsboro, DE, split Twin 17 lap wins in the Victory Lap Pro Late Models at Virginia Motor Speedway on Saturday, August 19, during week 10 of Dirt Series Championship weekly racing. In the first 17-lap feature, Billy Hubbard and Corey Almond led the field to green, with Hubbard grabbing the lead out of turn 2. On the next circuit, Almond dove under Hubbard to race side-by-side out of turn 2. Out of turn 4, Almond took the lead over Hubbard at the line. Behind the leaders, the battle for third is going strong between Chuck Bowie, Derek Magee, and Nick Davis. Point leader Jeremy Pilkerton would work his way back to the battle for fifth by lap eight after spinning on lap 3. With the laps winding down, Hubbard tried several times to get by Almond for the lead, the last time coming to the checkered flag with Almond holding on to take the win. Hubbard, Derek Magee, Jeremy Pilkerton, and Chuck Bowie would round out the top five. After a five-car invert, Chuck Bowie and Jeremy Pilkerton would lead the field to green, with Bowie sliding up the track and allowing Derek Magee to get to the inside, taking the lead at the line. Once at front, Magee began to pull away from Bowie, who had Hubbard working to get second. On lap 7, Bowie slid up the track in turn 2 to give Hubbard the space he needed to take second. Hubbard could never mount of charge for the lead as Magee kept a great pace and went on to win in his first time at the track. Rounding out the top five were Hubbard, Bud Stinson, Chuck Bowie, and Corey Almond. In the Truckin Thunder 25 lap feature, Adam Breeden of Standardsville, VA, and Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA, led the field to green, with Shelton taking the lead out of turn 2. Shelton pulled away from the battle for second between Matt Meads of Elizabeth City, NC, Breeden, and Bret Adkins of Saluda, VA. Adkins would work his way into second and set out to catch Shelton. By lap 9, Adkins had cut the lead to a car length. As the two raced into turn 1, Shelton would blow a motor handing the lead to Adkins. Once out front, Adkins would comfortably go on to take his third win of the season over Steve Causey, Adam Breeden, Tommy Upshaw, and Blake Adkins. In the Budweiser Modified 25-lap feature, Bret Hamilton of Powhatan, VA, grabbed the lead from Sam Lamborgini of Hayes, VA, on lap two with an outside move in turn 2. Once out front Hamilton would pull away and go on to grab his second win of the season. Rounding out the top five were Brent Bordeaux, current point leader Chase Butler, who finished on three tires, Sam Lamborgini, and Tim Schulte. In the Joe Hudson’s Collision Centers Limited Stock 20 lap feature, Jacob Buie and Cory Bradley led the field to green, with Bradley taking the lead. Johnny Brooks had to start eighth after winning the last two races, but that fact didn’t keep him from the front very long as he grabbed the lead on lap 5 from Bradley. Once out front, he had to survive three restarts after cautions to go on a take his fifth win of the season. Rounding out the top five were Bradley, Brain Maxey, Justin Pullen, and Trent Clemans. ARNOLD HOLDS OFF ALTOBELLI FOR MODIFIED MAFIA TOUR WIN; LIPSCOMBE & DAVIS GRAB PRO LATE MODEL WINS; ADKINS AND BROOKS ALSO VISIT VICTORY LANE

Jamaica, VA – The Modified Mafia Tour Shoot’ Em Up 30 feature became an instant classic as Chris Arnold of Matoaca, VA, used a little home-track magic to hold off Michael Altobelli of Saxton, PA, over the last 12 laps to score the $2500 victory at Virginia Motor Speedway. “I have been trying for years to get a win in a special here at Virginia Motor Speedway; I can’t thank Michael Altobelli enough for racing me clean,” commented Chris Arnold in Virginia Is For Racing Lovers victory lane. Micheal Altobelli and Chris Arnold led the field to green, with Arnold taking the lead out of turn 2. On lap 7 Austin Holcombe moved into second and began to close in on Arnold. Behind the leader Ty Norder, Taylor Cook, and Micheal Altobeill battled for third. A caution on lap 14 for a big wreck in turn 4 that involved six cars closed Holcombe on Arnold’s bumper. On the restart, Holcome would get under Arnold in turn 1, only to see Arnold use the high line to hold on to the lead. On lap 15 the battle for the lead got three wide with Arnold, Holcombe, and Altobelli. A caution on lap 17 for debris would put the field nose to tail for the restart. On the restart, Altobelli got under Holcombe for second and closed on Arnold. On the next lap, Altobelli got inside Arnold in turn 2 and pulled door-to-door into turn 3. Coming out of turn 4, Altobelli pulled ahead by a bumper, taking the lead at the line. Arnold would power back around Altobelli on the outside of turn one and two to retake the lead down the backstretch. Two laps later, Altobelli would look outside in turn 2, pulling up to Arnold’s door. Behind them, the battle for third between Holcombe and Taylor Cook heated up. All eyes were on the race for the lead, with the fans on their feet as Arnold and Altobelli battled side-by-side in the corners with the laps winding down. With three to go, the leaders started working lapped traffic, with both drivers getting through without much hassle. On the final lap, Arnold had Altobelli on his bumper. The two barreled down the backstretch. Heading into turn 3, Altobelli made one last ditch at the win by driving it hard into the corner. Arnold would hold on to grab the win over Altobelli, Taylor Cook, and Ty Norder. In the first Victory Lap Pro Late Model 15 lap feature, Corey Almond of Appomattox, VA, and Billy Hubbard of Cobbs Creek, VA, led the field to green, with Almond grabbing the lead out of turn 2. Almond paced the field for the first seven laps, with Davis Lipscombe of Mechanicsville, VA, closing in for the lead. On lap 7 Lipscombe began looking inside of Almond the lead. On lap 8, Lipscombe nipped Almond at the line by a bumper. The two race side-by-side all the way to turn 4, where Almond got caught behind a lap car, allowing Lipscombe to pull away. Over the final six laps, Almond would try to get back to the bumper of Lipscombe, but Lipscombe would hold his lead and go on to score his first win of the 2023 season. Rounding out the top five were Almond, Billy Hubbard, Nick Davis, and Ray Love, Jr. “It’s taken me two years to get this car where I want it; it is a 2006 Rocket that I have cut up and re-welded this chassis to finally get it to victory lane,” commented Davis Lipscombe in Virginia Is For Racing Lovers victory lane. An invert of four cars put Nick Davis of Millsboro, DE, on the pole for the second 15-lap feature. On the drop of the green flag, Davis jumped to the lead and began to pull away with Corey Almond in tow. Davis paced the first 11 laps with a comfortable lead over Almond. A caution on lap 12 closed Almond up on Davis’s bumper for a restart. On the restart, Davis had Almond to his outside for two corners until Davis pulled away and went on to score the win. Rounding out the top 5 were Almond, Davis Lipscombe, Ray Love, Jr., and Billy Hubbard. “The car was just fantastic tonight; I could put it just about anywhere,” commented Nick Davis in victory lane. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25-lap feature, Bret Adkins of Saluda, VA, jumped to the lead on the drop of the green flag. Once out front, he only had to fend off one challenge from Tim Shelton before he went on to grab his second victory of 2023. Rounding out the top five were Tim Shelton, Steve Causey, Hunter Wright, and Davis Lipscombe. Harper would grab the lead from Maxey with an outside move out of turn 4 on lap 4. On lap 10, Johnny Brooks would get to the inside of Harper, and the two raced side-by-side to the line, with Harper holding on to the lead. In turn 2, Brooks finally made the pass and went on to score the win, followed by Trent Clemans, Raymond Harper, Cory Bradley, and Brian Maxey. Speedway to Host Modified Mafia Tour on Saturday, August 5

Jamaica, VA – The top modified drivers in the Mid-Atlantic are headed to Virginia Motor Speedway on Saturday, August 5, for the $2500 to win, Modified Mafia Tour Shoot ‘Em Up 30. It will be the first visit by the Modified Mafia Tour to the ½ mile speed plant. “With it being a two-race weekend with Potomac Speedway, we should have a great car count, and the modifieds will put on a show, racing two and three-wide all night,” commented track owner Bill Sawyer. Adult general admission tickets are only $20, senior / military is $15, students 13 – 17 years old are $10, and children 12 and under are admitted free. Pit passes will be $35. Tickets are currently on sale at https://bit.ly/ModifiedMafia. Spectator gates will open at 5 PM, with hot laps beginning at 6 PM. Racing is scheduled for 7 PM. Bowie & pilkerton Score Pro Late Model Wins; Butler, Shelton, and Brooks REturn to Victory Lane on Truckin Thunder Millitary Appreciation Night

Jamaica, VA – Chuck Bowie of Welcome, MD, and Jeremy Pilkerton of Loveville, MD, both took home victories in the Victory Lap Pro Late Model Twin 15’s on Truckin Thunder Military Appreciation Night presented by Racing for Heroes and Tech for Troops. In the first Victory Lap Pro Late Model 15 lap feature, Bud Stinson and Billy Hubbard led the field to green, but Davis Lipscombe would lead the opening lap. On a lap six restart, Chuck Bowie would rocket under Lipscombe in turn 1 for the lead. Bowie would put some distance between himself and the battle for second. Jeremy Pilkerton would take second and set out to catch Bowie with the laps winding down. Bowie would go on to score the win ahead of Pilkerton, Billy Hubbard, Nick Davis, and Curtis Hughes. “This is only the second race on this car, after wrecking it at Hagerstown Speedway a couple of weeks ago; I can’t thank my wife for all the hard work she puts into making this car go fast,” commented Bowie in Virginia Is For Racing Lovers victory lane. After the invert, Nick Davis and Billy Hubbard led the field to green. Davis would take control out of turn 2 and lead the first circuit. On the next lap, Jeremy Pilkerton would get under Bud Stonson for second and set out to close in on the leader. By lap 6, Bowie’s lead was whittled down to two car lengths. With four to go, Pilkerton began to close in on Davis. Several times getting a nose to his inside only to be held at bay. Pilkerton would drive it deep into turn 1 on the final lap, closing the gap and looking inside as they raced out of turn 2. In turn 3, Pilkerton again drove it in deep, this time trying the outside of Davis. Pilkerton would get door to door as the two raced to the line but would lose by about a nose. After going over the scales, Davis was found to be light and was Dq’d, giving the win to Pilkerton. Rounding out the top five were Chuck Bowie, Bud Stinson, Jarrett Edwards, and Curtis Hughes. “I hate winning this way; this is Davis’s win. But we will take the win and second place finish in the first race and work to be better next race,” commented Pilkerton in Virginia Is For Racing Lovers victory lane. In the Budweiser Modified 25-lap feature, it didn’t take long for Chase Butler of Mechanicsville, VA, to get to the front from his fourth-place starting position, catching race leader Doug Penny of Vass, NC, on lap three as he went to the outside to take the lead. Once in the lead, Butler pulled away with Penny in tow, and the battle for third heating up. Butler would cruise to his third win of the season over Doug Penny, Brent Bordeaux, Lance Grady, and Jeff Solinger. In the Petie’s Radiator Service Pole Challenge, Chase Butler took home $100, last place qualifier Cory Bradley received $50, fifth place qualifier Lance Grady received $25, and eighth place qualifier, Curtis Mason, Jr also received $25. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25-lap feature, Adam Breeden of Scottsville, VA, and Brett Adkins of Saluda, VA, led the field to the green, with Adkins taking the lead. Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA, worked his way to Adkins bumper by lap 8. Shelton would try high and low to get by for several laps to take the lead. On lap 11, Shelton would get the opening he was looking for as Adkins pushed up the track in turn 3, where Shelton would take the lead coming out of turn 4. Once out front, Shelton pulled away to go on and score the win over Adkins, Adam Breeden, Steve Causey, and Hunter Wright. In the Joe Hudson’s Collision Centers Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature Johnny Brooks of Mechanicsville, VA, got the win the hard way. On lap 2, Brooks would bring out a caution when getting spun in turn 4. Brian Maxey led the first five laps before Ryan Hutchens rocked to his outside for the lead on lap 6. With Hutchens leading and the battle for second raging between Maxey Cory Bradley, Johnny Brooks would drive his way into the battle. By lap 12, Brooks had made his way to second. On lap 15, Brooks began working on Hutchens for the lead. On lap 16, after a slide job by Brooks, and a crossover by Hutchens, Brooks would get inside Hutchens in turn 4 and take the lead. Brooks would go on to score the win ahead of Hutchens, Trent Clmons, Bill Coada, and Brian Maxey. The speedway will take next weekend off and return to racing on Saturday, August 5, to host The Modified Mafia Modified Series in a $2500 to win event. Jamaica, VA – Coming off a very successful Powertrain Control Solutions Eddie Boomhower Memorial RVA Flat Track event, Virginia Motor Speedway will return to weekly racing this Saturday, July 22, and host Truckin Thunder Military Appreciation Night presented by Racing for Heroes, Tech for Troops, and ChildHelp. All military personnel, active or retired, will be admitted free (grandstand admission only) with their military I.D. It will be week 7 of Dirt Series Championship weekly racing. In some exciting side-by-side action, it will feature the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified, and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions. Once the rain stopped, the staff worked the track and got it back in phenomenal shape to go back to racing. And a track that provided the fans in person and online with some fantastic racing action. Team Yamaha rider Trevor Brunner used the racey surface to its full potential, taking home the DASH for CASH, 450 PRO, and the Open / Twin PRO class victories. Jamaica, VA – Flat track motorcycle racing will return to the ½ mile at Virginia Motor Speedway tonight as we host the RVA Flat Track sanctioned Eddie Boomhower Memorial Saturday, July 15, 2023. Adult general admission tickets are only $30, an adult general admission ticket with a pit pass is $40, students 13 – 17 years old are $15, and children 12 and under are admitted free. Pit passes will be $40. Tickets are currently on sale at the ticket window or online at www.vamotorspeedway.com/EddieBoomhowerMemorial. Spectator gates will open at noon, with heat racing beginning at 3 PM. Features are scheduled for 7 PM. Divisions that will be competing in the Eddie Boomhower Memorial are: 50cc, 65cc, 85cc, 250 AM, 450 AM, Open AM, 30+, 50+, Mad Dog, Vintage Light, Vintage Heavy, Hooligans, 450 Pro, and Twin/Open Pro. Competitor registration will be from 9 AM – 11:15 AM, with the rider’s meeting at 11:30 AM. Practice will start at noon, and heat races will begin at 3 PM.
