Jamaica, VA – This Saturday July 14th Virginia Motor Speedway returns to racing and will host week 8 of Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship weekly racing featuring the Victory Lap Pro Late Models, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Cars in some exciting side by side racing! The action on the track has been as hot as the temperatures with three of the four Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship divisions having three different winners in as many events. Will that trend continue this Saturday night in the Pro Late Model, Sportsman and Modified divisions? With the caliber of competition that races weekly at VMS the chances are high that it just may happen. Heading into this weekend’s action point leader Corey Almond of Appomattox, VA holds a 8 point advantage over Matt Quade of Mechanicsville, MD in the Victory Lap Pro Late Model division; in the Truckin Thunder Sportsman Joe Weiss of Elizabeth City, NC holds a slim 3 point lead over both defending Champion Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA and Steve Causey of Smithfield, VA; in the Budweiser Modified division Hunter McClendon of Williamsburg, VA holds a 7 point advantage over rookie Chase Butler of Mechanicsville, VA and in the Collision One Limited Stock Cars defending Champion James Givens of Sandston, VA unofficially holds a 6 point advantage over Chad Champion of Bumpass, VA. Jamaica, VA – Speedway management has made the decision to cancel racing activities for Saturday June 2nd due to the unfavorable forecast that includes heavy thunderstorms and a Flash Flood Warning until early Sunday Morning. This is the second rainout of the 2018 season. The speedway will now host Gloucester S.T.A.R. Kids Night and week 6 of the Aaron’s Dirt Series Champion weekly racing season Saturday June 9th. The night will feature the Victory Lap Late Models, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in action. “We are extremely disappointed in losing another race to weather, but the safety of our fans, competitors and staff is our utmost concern and would not want to take a chance of putting them or their families in any kind of danger”, commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer. Sawyer added, “S.T.A.R. Kids Night is very special to us which makes this decision even more difficult, but we will move their night to next Saturday June 9th.” The S.T.A.R. program provides athletics, games and social time to children with special needs. Jamaica, VA – Virginia Motor Speedway has released the tentative schedule for the 2018 season. It will mark the 49th season of action at the ½ mile speed plant in Jamaica, VA. The schedule includes twelve (12) nights of Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship weekly racing action, two Ultimate Super Late Model sanctioned events – the April 14th $20,000 to win Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth and the $20,000 to win 42ND Annual USA 100 presented by Commonwealth Motorsports; the $20,000 to win FASTRAK World Championship presented by James River Equipment weekend and two mud bogs at the facilities state-of-the-art 200 mud bog pit. The 49thAnnual season opening event will take place on Saturday evening April 7TH featuring a full program of Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship action that will include the Victory Lap Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock divisions. The season’s first special event will be April 14th and see the return of the Ultimate Super Late Model Series for the $20,000 to win Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth along with a $3000 to win FASTRAK National event for Pro Late Models. The event will have a Sunday April 15th rain date. June 16TH the Ultimate Super Late Model Series stars and cars will return for the 42ND Annual USA 100 presented by Commonwealth Motorsports and pay $20,000 to win. There will also be a $3000 to win FASTRAK National event for Pro Late Models. The event will have a Sunday June 17th rain date. The 2018 FASTRAK World Championship returns September 14-15, 2018 and will once again pay $20,000 to win. The weekend will also include a $5000 to win FASTRAK World Challenge event for FASTRAK members only and with a weekend support division to be announced.
