WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: Truckin Thunder Scout Night

Jamaica, VA — The speedway will host Truckin Thunder Scout Night tonight and feature the 4th Annual Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby as pre-race activities. The pinewood derby will have three categories: Scouts, Fans and competitors. There will be an overall champion crowned. Registration will get under way at 3pm with the derby starting at 4pm. Don’t have a pinewood derby car? No problem, rent one for $10 with the proceeds going to the charity ChildHelp! Spectator and competitors gates open at 3pm. Action on the big track will get underway at 6:30pm with hot laps and features starting at 8pm. Admission: Adults – $12; Seniors (60+) – $10; Military (active/retired) $8; Students (11-17) – $6 and kids 10 and under free. Pit passes (regardless of age) are $20. The night will feature the Aaron’s Pro Late Model and Budweiser Modified divisions in the “Twin Race” format. The night will also feature the 4th Annual Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby. Gates will open at 3pm for registration with the Dirtwood National Pinewood Derby starting at 4pm. Competitor gates for Saturday May 2nd will open at 3pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm for hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday: Victory Lap Late Models (30 Laps); Aaron’s Pro Late Models (Twin 15 laps); Budweiser Modifieds (Twin 15 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (25 Laps) and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars (20 Laps). All divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features. Admission price for Adults $12, seniors (60+) $10; military (active/retired w/ proper I.D.) $8, students 11 – 17 years old $6 and children 10 and under admitted free. Pit passes will be $20. 4th Annual Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby and Truckin Thunder Scout Night Saturday May 2nd

Jamaica, VA – If you have ever been involved in a pinewood derby you know how exciting it is not only for the kids but for the adults. Saturday May 2nd Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will bring that excitement and fun to the speedway as it hosts the 4th Annual Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby as part of Truckin Thunder Scout Night. “We are extremely excited to once again host this event and to help raise money and awareness for ChildHelp. Walker Arthur Scores Opening Night Victory in Victory Lap Late Model Action; Bare, Quade, Upshaw and Hutchens also collect wins

Jamaica, VA – The much anticipated opening race of the 2015 Virginia Army National Dirt Series season at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway didn’t disappoint with a battle for the ages in the Victory Lap Late Models between Walker Arthur and defending champion Justin Williams. The two drivers raced side by side for much of the first sixteen laps with Williams taking the lead briefly on lap 17. Three laps later, Arthur would regain the lead that he would not relinquish and go on to take the win. “What an unbelievable track we had tonight, I was able to take my car anywhere. When Justin (Williams) got past me, it showed me I had to drive my car a little harder,” commented Arthur in victory lane. In other action Tyler Bare picked up the win in Aaron’s Pro Late Models with a pass on Bobby Thompson on lap 18. In the Budweiser Modifieds defending champion Matt Quade charged from his twelfth place stating position to take the lead on lap 7 and go on to the win. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman Tommy Upshaw picked up the win and in the Collision One Limited Stocks Ryan Hutchens held off a stout field to take the victory. On the drop of the green flag of the Victory Lap Late Model race Walker Arthur rocketed from his fourth place starting position to lead the first lap with Justin Williams in tow. Williams worked the outside of Arthur trying to take over the top spot. On lap 2 Williams pushed his car so hard it brushed the turn 2 wall causing major damage to his spoiler. For several laps Williams worked to keep the car under him while also trying to keep Arthur from pulling away on someone else taking his spot. On lap 3 Williams would lose second briefly to Billy Tucker only to take the position back on the next circuit. Each lap Williams would lean on the cushion trying to get to the outside of Arthur. On lap 15 Williams finally got to the outside of Arthur coming out of turn 2 as the two raced side by side to the line. On the next lap Williams pulled off the pass out of turn two. That is when Arthur turned up the wick. Over the next three laps Arthur went to work and on lap 19 Arthur put a major league slide job on Williams out of turn 4 to take over the lead he would not relinquish. Williams tried on several occasions to take back the lead but Arthur held on for the victory. Rounding out the top five were Justin Williams, Buck Roadcap, Billy Hubbard and Darryl Hills. In the Aaron’s Pro Late Model 25 lap feature defending champion Bobby Thompson and Jared Powell led the field to green with Thompson leading the first lap with Powell in second. Behind him the action quickly went 3-wide for third. With everyone battling for second on back that allowed Thompson to pull away with a sizeable lead. On lap 87 Walker Arthur worked his way to second and looked like he might pull off another win but Thompson was up for the challenge. Methodically working his way into second Tyler bare began to apply pressure to the leader on lap 15. On lap 17 bare got under Thompson in turn 2 and took over the lead. Once out front bare kept a comfortable distance on the field to score the win. Following bare to the checkers were Bobby Thompson, Walker Arthur, Jared Powell and Ricky Wells rounding out the top five. In the Truckin Sportsman 17 lap feature James Bunn and Tommy Upshaw led the field to green with Upshaw grabbing the lead out of turn 2. Upshaw would give up the lead to Jeremiah Marshall on lap 5 and looked to be settling into second but on lap 14 Marshall would slow with mechanical issues handing the lead and the victory over to Upshaw. In the Collision One Limited Stock Cars Chad Champion and Brian Bradley would lead the field to green with Champion grabbing the lead. On lap 3 Ryan Hutchens would take the top spot away from Champion with a pass out of turn 2. The top six drivers all stayed within striking distance of the lead. Hutchens fended off several challenges but was strong enough to take the victory over Chad Champion, Brian Bradley, David Bowler and Chris Maxey. The speedway will take next Saturday April 25th off due to the NASCAR races at Richmond International Raceway and return to racing on Saturday May 2nd for Truckin Thunder Scout Night presented by the Virginia Army National Guard. Randy Weaver Crowned Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth; Walker Arthur Wins $3000 FASTRAK National Tour Event

Jamaica, Virginia (April 11, 2015) – Coming into the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series sanctioned Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth at Virginia Motor Speedway the name being talked about more than any other was the white-hot Randy Weaver of Crossville, Tennessee. After all, the 45 year old driver was off to his best season start of his career having won each of the 4 events he had entered thus far. So most of the dirt late model world was wondering if Weaver could keep his winning streak alive at a facility he had never even seen before. And what was Weaver’s answer? A resounding yes in the form of a dominating win that saw him set overall fast time, win his heat race and lead every lap of the sixty lap feature to garner the biggest payday of his career. “The good Lord is being real good to me right now and I don’t know why. I owe everything to Him. But man what a race car and crew. I’m tellin’ ya anybody in them grandstands can drive this thing. It about drives itself. And Josh and Grant and my owners Chip and Rusty Stone are here this weekend. This awesome Cornett power. This Longhorn Chassis, everywhere we go…I mean I have never seen this place, I have just heard great things about it, and I can’t believe that my name is in history down here now.” said a very jubilant Weaver in his victory lane interview. Weaver picks up his second ULTIMATE Super Late Model victory of the season which is his richest to date. “What an incredible facility here. This is just an awesome place. For promoters to take a chance like this in our sport…we really appreciate facilities like Virginia Motor Speedway.” In other action Walker Arthur of Forest, VA dominated on way to a $3000 victory during the 40 lap FASTRAK National Tour event. It was the inaugural race for the new FASTRAK National Tour. At the drop of the green flag for the Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth Weaver surged to the lead. And while out front Weaver’s progress was only slowed as he encountered lapped traffic it was a very different story behind him. Davenport and Zeigler waged a battle for the runner-up spot from the outset. Davenport was able to slip into 2nd on the opening lap. However on the 4th circuit Zeigler was able to use his outside line to grab 2nd while Bloomquist and Chris Madden gave chase from the 4th and 5th positions. Davenport continued to stalk Zeigler and when Bloomquist jumped into the mix, Davenport turned up the wick. Bloomquist rolled by Davenport down the back straightaway but Davenport would have no part of it. He drove his Longhorn machine to the high side of turns 3 and 4 moving back by Bloomquist and setting up Zeigler for the slider through turns one and two to retake the 2nd position. Up front Weaver was cruising but beginning to encounter back marker traffic. Weaver was able to negotiate the lap machines with relative ease as he was able to move his race car all over the track when he needed to. However Weaver’s only real scare of the event came as he was attempting to put Ricky Elliott down a lap. Weaver entered turn 3 hard in order to slide by the high running Elliott. Weaver’s machine began to hop wildly as he slid up the track. No harm, no foul for Weaver however as the yellow waved for the final time of the night when Earl Pearson, Jr. stopped on the track. Weaver was able to continue with no issues after the scare. “I thought I had knocked the tires off it there. I heard them call for the caution and I was checking up as it was sliding to the outside. I shook it back and forth and made sure everything was still under me.” Weaver added. Under him it was as he powered away on the final restart and held on to win the $20,000 winner’s purse. Davenport settled for 2nd and Bloomquist finished in the 3rd position. In addition to the nice payday, event title-sponsor Aaron’s Inc. presented Weaver with a new 49” LG 4K Ultra HD Television as a part of the Aaron’s “Best Seat in the House” Promotion. The win was Weaver’s 5th in a row for 2015 and brought his 2015 winnings to over $45,000. To say the first ever FASTRAK National Tour event was a success would be an understatement as 37 of the East Coast’s top Pro Late Model ushered in a new era in FASTRAK racing. Local favorite and former track champion Walker Arthur of Forest, VA etched his name into the record books by winning the first event FASTRAK National Tour event in dominating fashion. The first ever National Tour race was a companion event for the Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth sanctioned by its sister series the Ultimate Super Late Model tour. “We’ve turned a lot of laps around this place but this has to be one of the biggest wins I have ever had here at VMS. The car has been so good all year and it ran just flawless tonight; event though we didn’t do as well as we want in the Super Late model tonight, we are super excited about winning the first ever FASTRAK National Tour event here at our home track,” commented Arthur in victory lane. At the drop of the green flag Arthur rocketed to the lead from his pole position as David Smith, Jimmy Schiltz, Daniel Baggerly and Mark Parks went four wide to decide second. With the action behind him Arthur pulled away to a comfortable lead. By lap 11 Arthur began working lapped traffic while the battle for second continued between Smith, Parks and Schiltz. At the halfway point Arthur maintained almost a full straight lead over the field while masterfully working lapped traffic. With plenty of two, three and even four wide racing behind him Arthur continued to stretch out the lead. On lap 20 Kennie Compton Jr. joined the battle for second picking off drivers one by one until he finally claimed the spot from Smith on lap 30. With 10 laps remaining Compton tried to reel in the leader but Arthur was too strong going on to take the $3000 victory with Compton, Smith, Parks and Schiltz, Matt Long, 2014 FASTRAK World Champion Tim Dohm, Dillon Brown, Daniel Baggerly and Jared Powell rounding out the top ten. Jamaica, VA – Beautiful skies and warm temperatures are greeting the fans today as they stream in for the $20,000 too win Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth featuring the Ultimate Super Late Model Series. Also on tap tonight is the first ever Fastrak National Tour event for Pro Late Models that will pay $30000 to the winner. This is one race you do not want to miss! With the running of this Saturday’s $20,000 to win Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth and the $3000 to win FASTRAK National Tour races the two have come up with the idea to present one of the largest 4-wide salutes to the fans in history. The fans will be saluted with no less than a 48 car 4-wide salute accompanied by fireworks and a cannon shot from the Third Richmond Howitzer re-enactors. “I told Bill this might sound crazy but I want to do a 48 car 4-wide salute to the fans with fireworks using both divisions of competitors and he said I like crazy let’s try it,” stated Stan Lester. “We can’t thank the fans enough for supporting dirt racing and racing at Virginia Motor Speedway, they deserve a huge salute,” concluded Lester.
