Storms Cause Power Outage Canceling Racing for Saturday June 23rd

Jamaica, VA – Major storms, producing heavy lightning, caused a power outage at the speedway forcing officials of Bill Sawyer’s to cancel racing activities for Saturday, June 23rd. The speedway will return to racing Saturday June 30th for Truckin Thunder Scout Night presented by the Virginia Army National Guard and week eight of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action. The night’s activities will include the 1st Annual Truckin Thunder Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby presented by the Virginia Army National Guard that will precede the action at the big track. There will be three divisions of competition for the pinewood derby – Scouts, Fans and VMS competitors. Gates will open at 3pm for registration and the 1st Annual Dirtwood Nationals will start at 4pm. After the pinewood derby everyone is invited to stay for a night filled with exciting high octane, side by side dirt track racing and fireworks. All Scouts and Scout Masters in uniform will be admitted free in the grandstands. Competitor gates for Saturday, June 30th will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps. Mud Mayhem 2 Mud Bog Breaks records at “The Pit” at VMS

Jamaica, VA – The Pit at Virginia Motor Speedway hosted the first of two Mud Bog and Mud Sling’s for the 2012 season this past Saturday June 16th breaking records in the process. The Mud Mayhem 2 Mud Bog and Mud Sling presented by Rappahannock Tractor and the Virginia Army National Guard and in part by Davis off Road, ORI of Richmond, Truckin Thunder, Collision One and Monster Energy Drink drew a huge crowd and record field of competitors at the state of the art mud bog facility in Jamaica, VA. The sunny temperatures and sunny skies provided a tremendous day for mud bogging. 112 different competitors took turns at the state of the art 200 foot pit for a total of 202 completed passes. Winners in each class: Stock A – “Mudiva” Tanya Ricks in Hell On Heels becoming The Pit’s first female competitor to win a division; Stock B – Luther Ganon in Just Blazin’; Modified A – George Johnson in Gold Digger 2; Modified B – George Johnson in Gold Digger; Modified C – Herby Dorsett in Jusplayin; Pro Mod – Chuck Engel in Mud Life Crisis; Unlimited Bog – Chuck Engel in Mud Life Crisis; X Cuts – Travis Shoemaker in Highroller 4; and XX Paddles – Chris Newton in Hostile Projectile. Billy Tucker Gets Career First Win at Virginia Motor Speedway; Adkins Goes Two for Two and Duncan Repeats

Jamaica, VA – In one of the most exciting races of the year Billy Tucker of King George, VA muscled his way inside Scott Adams of Chester, VA on lap 33 to take over the top spot and go on to score his career first victory in the Victory Lap Late Model division at Virginia Motor Speedway. “I’ve been the brides maid so many times here it feels really good to finally get into victory lane,” commented Tucker. After his interview Tucker got on one knee in victory lane and asked his girlfriend Laurie Canter to marry him. She said yes. In other action Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA doubled up for the second time this season winning both the Truckin Thunder Sportsman and Collision One Limited Stock Car features and in the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature jimmy Duncan of Fredericksburg, VA made it two in a row with his win. Derick Quade and Will Pritchard led the field to green with Quade taking control out of turn 2. On lap 5 Scott Adams went inside Tucker for second in turn 3, the two touched allowing Tim Shelton to go to the outside and make it three wide for the position. When the dust cleared Shelton was in second with Adams close in third. While the battle for second heated up Quade had moved out to a full straight lead. Once in second Shelton began to reel in the leader but on lap 15 Shelton would head to the pit area with motor troubles ending his night and bringing out a caution. On the restart Quade looked as if he was going to pull away but on the exit of turn four slide high allowing Adams to pull to his inside. The two raced into turn 1 where they touched sending Quade up the track and giving Adams the lead. Adams pulled away to a comfortable lead and looked to be unbeatable. With the laps winding down Tucker began closing on the leader and finally got what he needed, a caution with two laps to go. On the restart Tucker dove under Adams and muscled his way to the lead as the two exited turn 2. Tucker would never look back and would go on to record his career first victory in the division. Rounding out the top five were John Staton, Ben Bowie, Scott Adams and Anthony Kincaid. Brandon Atkinson was the Pitts Lumber rookie of the Race. Truckin Thunder Sportsman Davey Pullen and Brett Adkins led the field to green with Adkins taking the lead out of turn 2. Once out front Adkins pulled away from the field while Junior Carter, Todd Traylor and Taylor Doggett battled for second. Several cautions closed the field on Adkins bumper but on each restart Adkins would pull away while the battle for second heated up. With the laps winding down and Adkins comfortably in the lead Traylor and Doggett battled for second. With the action behind him Adkins went on to score his second win of the season. Rounding out the top five were Todd Traylor, Taylor Doggett, Davey Pullen and Junior Carter. Adkins was also the Pitts Lumber Rookie of the Race. Budweiser Modifieds Curtis Barricks and Chris Arnold brought the field to green with Arnold taking over the top spot to lead the first lap. Jimmy Duncan would get to the front quickly and would power inside Arnold for the lead out of turn 4 on the next lap. Once out front Duncan to pull away from the field with Brian Dobie the only car to stay within striking distance. The only thing to slow Duncan were four cautions that closed the field on his bumper with the final one coming on lap 23. On the final restart Duncan was able to get tow car lengths on Dobie and go on to record his second win in a row at Virginia Motor Speedway. Rounding out the top five were Brian Dobie, Page Harrison, Dan Arnold and Brandon Galloway. Mike Reynolds was the Pitts Lumber rookie of the Race with his eighth place finish. Collision One Limited Stock Cars The Collision One Limited Stock division once again delivered a tremendous race for the great crowd on hand. Bob Terry and Stephen Childress led the field to green with Terry leading the first circuit. On the next lap Childress got under Terry out of turn 4 to take over the lead. Childress would pace the field with Brett Adkins in hot pursuit. On lap 10 Adkins slide under Childress in turn 1 making enough contact to send Childress up the track and take over the lead. That was all Adkins needed as he cruised to his second win of the night. Rounding out the top five were Wesley Givens, Brandon Sandridge, Bob Terry and Bobby Curtis. Curtis was the Pitts Lumber Rookie of the Race. Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will take with week off at the round track to host the first of two big Mud Bog events for the 2012 season. Shaver Sensational in Mid-Atlantic Spring Championship; Carter and C. Arnold first time winners

Jamaica, VA – The finish to the Ultimate Super Late Model sanctioned Mid-Atlantic Spring Championship had the crowd on their feet as Steve Shaver of Vienna, WV and Jeremy Miller of Gettysburg, PA put on a show as they battled over the final twenty laps for the win with Shaver taking the lead on last lap to take the win and the $10,000 top prize. “I have to thank the Sawyer’s for supplying us with a track you can race on, you could go anywhere on the track and pass cars, I just love coming to this place,” commented a very elated Shaver in victory lane. Jeremy Miller and Chris Madden led the field to green with Miller taking the top spot and the lead out of turn 2. Miller looked to be untouchable as he pulled away from the field and began lapping slower cars by lap 8. On lap 12 Madden had to hold off Dale McDowell for second as they worked through lapped traffic. In Lap 16 McDowell got inside off Madden out of turn 2, as they raced back into three Steve Shaver made it three wide coming out of turn 4 to take third. On a lap 21 restart Shaver got inside McDowell for second and set out to catch Miller. By lap 29 Shaver had caught Miller and began pressuring him for the lead. Several times he would get inside Miller but each time Miller would hold on to the spot. On lap 35, with the lead duo working lapped traffic, Shaver got inside Miller coming out of turn 4 and nipped Miller for the lead at the line. Miller would rocket back to the lead in turn 1 with Shaver in close pursuit. On lap 46 Shaver began testing the outside of Miller and on each successive lap would pull alongside to challenge for the lead. On lap 48 shaver dove it in deep in turn 1 and when the two exited turn 2 Shaver had pulled off the pass for the lead and would go on to score the $10,000 victory. Rounding out the top five were Jeremy Miller, Dale McDowell, Rick Eckert, and Jamie Lathroum. Heat race wins went to Chris Madden, Jeremy Miller, Jamie Lathroum and Chris Ferguson. B Main win went to Ricky Elliott. In other action the speedway had two first time winners as Chris Arnold of Petersburg, VA led flag to flag for his first win in the Budweiser Modified division and junior Carter of Mechanicsville, VA held off Todd Trayor of King William, VA for his first Truckin Thunder Sportsman victory. In the Budweiser Modified 25 feature Chris Arnold of Petersburg, VA led flag to flag for his career first win at Virginia Motor Speedway. Behind him current point leader brian Dobie and former track champion Brett Hamilton put on a show for the fans racing side by side for second for ten laps. Dobie would take second by inches at the line over Hamilton with Page Harrison and defending track champion Dan Arnold rounding out the top 5. Donnie Smith was the Pitts Lumber Rookie of the Race with his ninth place finish. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25 lap feature Junior Carter and Davey Pullen led the field to green with Carter controlling the top spot. On lap 11 Todd Trayor got past Pullen for second and began to reel in the leader. On lap 18 Traylor began applying pressure for the lead looking inside Carter at every corner. Each time Carter was up to the task and the laps wound down. With the fans on their feet Traylor pushed Carter for all he was worth only to come up short as Carter would take his career first Sportsman win with Traylor glued to his bumper. Rounding out the top five were Stephen Childress, Brett Adkins and Taylor Doggett. Brett Adkins was the Pitts Lumber rookie of the Race with his fourth place finish. The speedway will take the weekend of May 26th off and return to racing Saturday June 2nd with week five of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action. ULTIMATE SUPER LATE MODELS SET TO RETURN THIS SATURDAY

Jamaica, VA – Anticipation is running high for the return of the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series this Saturday May 19th to Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway for the $10,000 to win Mid-Atlantic Spring Championship presented by FK Rod Ends. Last season’s visit by the regional touring series was one of 2011’s top dirt late model events on the East Coast. ULTIMATE teams have been buzzing about their return to Virginia Motor Speedway since last year’s event. Defending race winner Steve Shaver will be looking to repeat when this Saturday rolls around and looking to stop him will be a host of top late model talent to include defending ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series Champion Chris Ferguson, current ULTIMATE point leader Casey Roberts, Chris Madden, Dennis Franklin and the rest of the ULTIMATE faithful. Also expect regional stand-outs Ricky Elliott, Jamie Lathroum, Jason Covert, Jeremy Miller, UFO Late Model Series Champion Devin Friese and current World of Outlaws Late Model Champion Rick Eckert. The driver’s from the South will have their hands full with a tough contingent of Mid-Atlantic hot-shoes. This is sure to turn into an epic North versus South event. Virginia Motor Speedway is pulling out all the stops once again to draw every Late Model in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast by offering tow money to any driver not making the 26 car field with any driver not making the A Main receiving $200. Virginia Motor Speedway and ULTIMATE series officials expect the pits to be overflowing with Super Late Models as teams flock to Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway for this special event. Fans will also see the track’s Truckin Thunder Sportsman and Budweiser Modified divisions in Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action. There will be three drawings for the fans to become very interactive with this event. One fan will get the chance to ride in the Pace Truck during the traditional “Four Wide” salute to the fans while one lucky fan will get to the chance to be Grand Marshall and wave the green flag at the start of the race. There will also be one lucky fan that will win a VP Racing Fuel checked flag autographed by all the drivers in attendance courtesy of the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series.
