Williams gets first win of season in Late Models; Arnold, Childress and Sandridge also visit victory lane

Jamaica, VA – With a three wide pass out of turn 4 on lap 28 David Williams of Clements, MD took over the top spot then was able to hold off several late race challenges to take the checkers for his first win of the season in the Victory Lap Late Model 35 lap feature at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway on Pepsi / WXGM Night at the Races. Scott Adams led the first 28 laps and while in traffic Williams made a bold move to the outside to make it three wide coming to the line to take over the top spot with the fans on their feet. “Lapped traffic helped me tonight, the track was really fast and when Scott (Adams) came up on the slower traffic the outside opened up and I just shoved it in there and hoped it would stick,” commented Williams in victory lane. “It feels great to finally get that win here this year, the team has worked so hard and they deserve it,” added Williams. Davis Lipscombe and Adams led the field to green with Adams taking the lead with a strong move from the outside. Adams looked like he was going to run away and hide but once in lapped traffic Lipscombe and Williams began to close in on Adams for the lead. On lap 27 Williams got by Lipscombe for second and went after Adams for the lead. On the next lap Adams and Williams began to get into lapped traffic and in turn 4 the door opened to the outside and Williams muscled his way to the outside to make it three wide at the line and take over the lead. The caution would come out for the second and final time on lap 31 when Adams sun in turn 4. On the restart Williams was able to fend off Lipscombe and went on to record his first win of 2011 in the Victory Lap Late Model division. Rounding out the top five were Davis Lipscombe, Kenny Moreland, Billy Tucker and Matt Marshall. In other action Dan Arnold of Petersburg, Va picked up his second win of the season in the Budweiser Modifieds. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman Stephen Childress of St. Stephens Church, VA got his third win of the season and in the Collision One Limited Stock Car division David Bowler of Gloucester, VA crossed the line first under the checkers but after post race inspection was disqualified for an unapproved part repair handing the win over to Brandon Sandridge of Mechanicsville, VA resulting in his career first victory. In the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature Joey Polevoy and Brian Maxey led the field to green with Polevoy jumping to the lead. Caution would fly before the first lap could be completed for Maxey who came to a stop in turn 3 with a flat tire. A complete restart saw Dan Arnold moved up to the front row and on the drop of the green flag rocketed to the lead. Arnold began to pull away from Polevoy and Bret Hamilton as they battled for second. Hamilton would get by Polevoy on lap 14 with an outside pass out of turn 4. Hamilton would tangle with lapped traffic two laps later and give the spot back to Polevoy. Caution would come out on lap 18 for Aaron Harris who came to a stop with front end damage in turn 4. On the restart Hamilton retook the second spot. The car on the move was Maxey who had worked his way back to sixth. Over the next three laps Maxey worked his way to third with great moves out of turn 2 each time. The races third and last caution came out on lap 22 bunching the field back on Arnold’s bumper for the restart. On the restart Arnold pulled away as Hamilton battled with Maxey for second. Arnold would go on to take his second win of the season and extend his point lead over Maxey in the chase for the championship. Rounding out the top five were Brett Hamilton, Brian Maxey, Page Harrison and Wayne Barricks. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25 lap feature Stephen Childress and Junior Carter led the field to green with Childress leading the first lap. Following closely were Todd Traylor, Tony Wood and Roger Jamerson. The races first caution came out on lap 6 when Wood ran into the back of Traylor on the backstretch locking the two cars together. They were able to get apart but Wood’s bumper ended up on the track bringing out the caution. On the restart Childress maintained his lead over the field. on lap 8 Traylor began pressuring Cater for second and on lap 9 took the spot with a inside pass out of turn 4. The action in the top five was intense with Traylor trying several times for the lead. On lap 21 J.R. Guy began to work his way to fourth with passes on Wood and Jamerson. With one to go Childress had Traylor all over his rear bumper pressuring him for the lead. Childress woull pick up the win with Traylor pushing him across the finish line in second. Rounding out the top five were Junior Carter, J.R. Guy and Roger Jamerson. In the Collision One Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature Brandon Sandridge and David Bowler would lead the field to green with Sandridge taking the point. On lap 2 the battle for the lead went three wide with Sandridge, Bowler and Ryan Toole. Bowler would emerge with the lead at the line followed closely by Sandridge and Toole. In fact the top seven cars were all in position to take over the top spot. On several occasions Bowler would fend off challenges several times rubbing sheet metal in the process. On lap 18 Toole looked inside Bowler as they exited turn 4; the two raced side by side to turn 2 where they touched allowing Bowler to regain the lead. In turn 4 Toole would bring out the races final caution with a spin setting up a green, white, checkered finish. On the restart held off Sandridge and went on to record his career first victory. Rounding out the top five were Brandon Sandridge, James Givens, Brett Adkins and Joe Ender. Results are unofficial until further inspection. Shaver takes checkers in Ultimate Super Late Model Summer Heat 50; LaRoque, Arthur and Adkins also get wins

Jamaica, VA – On one of the hottest days of the year the action on track was even hotter as Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway hosted the first visit by the Ultimate Super Late Models to the ½ mile speedplant in Jamaica, VA for the $10,000 to win Summer Heat 50. Steve Shaver of Vienna, WV took over the top spot on lap 20 with an outside pass of Jamie Lathroum out of turn 2. Lathroum tried several times to get back past Shaver for the lead but each time Shaver help on to the spot and would go on to take the victory in the inaugural Summer Heat 50 and collected the $10,000 check. “I know what the staff here at VMS is doing to get such a great track in temperatures like we had today but keep it up,” commented Shaver in victory lane. “I really have to thank the Rumley’s they give me a great car to drive every time and Ihave to say I really love this facility,” added Shaver. Following Shaver to the checkers were Jeremy Miller, Jamie Lathroum, Casey Roberts and Jonathan Davenport. In other action Scott Adams of Chester, VA took home his second win of the season in the Victory Lap Late Models; in the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature Travis LaRoque of Newburg, MD picked up his first victory; in the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25 lap feature Ross Bailes and Casey Roberts led the field to green with Bailes leading the first lap. On lap 2 Jamie Lathroum dove inside Bailes out of turn 4 and would take the lead by inches at the line. On lap five the race would encounter two caution flags, each restart Lathroum would choose the inside and keep the lead once under green. On lap 6 Davenport got by Shaver for second and looked to be headed to the front but jumped the cushion on lap 10 and lost a bit of momentum. Davenport would gather it back up and reel in Lathroum and on lap 16 got to the outside to take the lead out of two. the lead was short lived as Lathroum battled back in turn 3 with the two making contact and Lathroum coming out with the lead and Shaver following to second. Caution would come out on lap 19 when Ricky Elliott came to a stop in turn 3. On the restart Lathroum chose to start on the inside with Shaver to his outside. As the two raced into turn one Shaver powered around the outside of Lathroum and the two went door to door with Shaver taking the lead by inches at the line. Lathroum stayed on the inside of Shaver as the two raced side by side for the next two laps before Shaver would finally secure the top spot. On lap 31 Jeremy Miller began looking inside Lathroum for second. On lap 34 Miller finally took second and worked to reel in the leader. Shaver would keep a couple of car lengths between himself and Miller and would go on to take the checkers over Miller, Lathroum, Casey Roberts and Davenport. In the Victory Lap Late Model 35 lap feature Scott Adams of Chester, VA got inverted to the pole of the feature with Derick Quade of Mechanicsville, MD to his outside and leading the field to green. Adams would lead the first lap followed closely by Quade, Davis Lipscmobe, Anthony Kincaid and Walker Arthur. On lap 3 caution would come out for David Williams who suffered a flat tire and came to rest in turn 3. On the restart Quade would look inside Adams for the lead only to be turned away. The car on the move was Tim Shelton as he had worked his way to fifth from his fourteenth place starting position. On the restart Adams and Quade went back to battling for the lead, every time Adams was up to the task and would hold on to the top spot. On alp 17 David Williams would his way back into the top five and went to working on Kincaid for fourth. Williams quickly made his way to third and began a battle with Quade for second. While the Quade worked to keep Williams behind him for second Adams began to pull away and work lapped traffic. With the battle behind him Adams would go on to get his second win of the season followed by Derick Quade, David Williams, Davis Lipscombe and Anthony Kincaid to the checkers. In the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature John Ferguson and Bret Hamilton led the field to green with Hamilton leading the first lap. With all the action behind him Hamilton pulled away to a full straight lead. For the first fifteen laps the only thing to slow Hamilton were two cautions. On the restart on lap 15 Hamilton pulled away again with Page Harrison, John Ferguson, Brian Maxey and seventeenth starting Travis LaRoque battling for second. On lap 19 Maxey worked inside Harrison in turn 2 as the two exited the corner they made contact with Maxey taking over second and Harrison falling back to third. On the next lap caution would come out when Maxey went for a spin in turn 1 with help from Harrison. It would be Hamilton leading the last five laps and crossing under the checkers first for what was to be his first win of the season at VMS. But after crossing the scales Travis LaRoque was declared the winner when Hamilton came up light. Rounding out the top five were Brandon Galloway, Jimmy Duncan and Wayne Barricks. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25 lap feature Junior Carter and Todd Traylor would lead the field to green with Carter leading the first circuit. Walker Arthur quickly made his way to second and began pressuring Carter for the lead. Walker tried high and low trying to find away around Carter for the lead. On lap 18 Arthur peeked to Carter’s inside as they headed into turn 1 and then he whipped it to the outside and pulled along side Carter in turn 2. Down the backstretch Arthur wrestled the lead away and then never looked back to go on to the victory. Rounding out the top five were Junior Carter, John Kirby, Todd Traylor and Michael Hayes. In the Collision One Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature nightcap Brandon Sandridge and Thomas Rose led the field to green. Two cautions would come out for wrecks by Joe Ender and then a multi car pileup in turn four before one lap could be completed. Once under green Sandridge would lead the races first lap followed closely by Wesley Givens and James Givens. On lap 9 Brett Adkins joined the battle for second and went outside James Givens in turn 2 and inside Wesley Givens in turn 3 to take the spot. On lap 10 the battle for the lead got intense as Sandridge, Adkisn and the two Givens traded paint for the top spot. On lap 12 Adkins, who started sixteenth, took over the top spot, a postion he would not give up as he went on to record his third win in a row. Rounding out the top five were James Givens, Wesley Givens, David Bowler and Ryan Toole. Condolences Go Out To Chuck Marks with passing of his father

Marks Jr. (January 10, 1934 – July 21, 2011). $10,000 to win Summer Heat 50 This Saturday July 23rd

Jamaica, VA – The inaugural season of ULTIMATE Super Late Model competition will be highlighted with a huge $10,000 to win feature event Saturday July 23rd at the ½ mile clay oval known as Virginia Motor Speedway. Virginia Motor Speedway has hosted numerous electrifying and prestigious late model events and now adds the Summer Heat 50 to its racing portfolio. “We are excited to host an elite event for this new series, Stan Lester and his staff have put together what we feel is a very competitive group that should please our many fans with some awesome racing,” commented Track General Manger Clarke Sawyer. ULTIMATE teams have been buzzing with discussion about this upcoming event. New championship leader Chip Brindle, riding the momentum of his Independence Shootout win at Cherokee Speedway, is just one of the many drivers who have this event circled as a must on their schedule. “The Georgia Bandit” Casey Roberts will be looking to rebound after a rare DNF in the Independence Shootout. Chris “Fergy Time” Ferguson, Ricky Weeks, Daniel Baggerly, Ross Bailes and “Kid Quick” Zack Mitchell are just a few of the drivers who will head north to battle for the $10,000 winner’s check and a total purse exceeding $35,000. The driver’s from the South will have their hands full with a tough contingent of Mid-Atlantic hot-shoes. This is sure to turn into an epic North versus South event. Virginia Motor Speedway is pulling out all the stops to draw every Late Model in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast by offering tow money to any driver not making the 26 car field. Virginia Motor Speedway and ULTIMATE series officials expect the pits to be overflowing with Super Late Models as teams flock to Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway for this inaugural event. Fans will also see the track’s Victory Lap Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action. Competitor gates for Saturday July 23rd will open at 3pm with spectator gates opening at 4pm. On track activities will begin at 6 pm with hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday July 23rd: ULTIMATE Super Late Models (50 Laps); Victory Lap Late Models (35 laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (25 Laps); Budweiser Modifieds (25 Laps); and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars (20 laps). ULTIMATE Super Late Models will run qualifying, heats, B Main(s) and Feature. All track divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features. Adult tickets are just $20; seniors (60+) $15; military $15; students 13 – 17 years old $8; children 7 – 12 years old $4; and children 6 and under free. Pit passes will be $25. All tickets will be sold day of event. 16” coolers are welcomed but no glass is allowed. There is plenty of free lit parking and camping (no hookups) is allowed at no charge on a first come first served basis. ULTIMATE SERIES ANNOUNCES TIRE RULE CHANGE

Gaffney SC- Series Director Timmy Mcabee announced today that after consultation with the Ultimate Board and Rules Committee that a change in the tire rule will be made. Beginning with the July 16th Hillbilly 50 at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap VA, the tire rule will be HOOSIER 1300, 1350, 1600 with optional 70. No more spec tire rule. Mcabee stated that “this is the same tire rule used in the SASE Series last year” He continued “the Ultimate series from its inception has listened to drivers and the board members input.
