Tucker and Adams Score Late Model Victories; Duncan, Adkins, Padula and Givens Sweep Twins

Jamaica, VA – Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway hosted its second night of twin features on a very chilly night. The temperatures may have been unseasonably cold but the racing was blistering hot. Features winners were Billy Tucker of King George, VA and Scott Adams of Chester, VA in the Victory Lap Late Model twins; Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA swept both Trucking Thunder Sportsman features; Jimmy Duncan of Fredericksburg, VA won both Budweiser Modified features; Dave Padula of Greencastle, PA won both Fastrak Pro Late Model features and Wesley Givens of Mechanicsville, VA swept the action in Collision One Limited Stock Cars. John Staton of Chesapeake, VA led 14 laps of the first 20 lap feature for the Victory Lap Late Models, that is until he made contact with a slower car in turn 2 sending him spinning and to the infield. That handed the lead over to Billy Tucker who had battled Staton for the lead for the first 14 laps. Once out front Tucker made the most of it taking home his first win of 2013. In the second 20 lap feature for the late models Tucker had to start eighth due to the invert. Leading the field to green were Brandon Long and Scott Adams with long leading the first circuit. Adams took over the lead on lap 2 with Tucker working his way back to the front. By lap 4 Tucker was on the leader’s bumper and looking for the lead. Adams and Tucker raced side by side for much of the remaining laps but it was Adams who would take home the win. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman Brett Adkins took out the broom to win both features but each was different than the other.oen in a different fashion. In the first 15 lap feature Adkins started sixth and worked his way to the front and on lap 4 made an outside move on Junior Carter in turn 2 and then an inside move on Timmy Brann in turn 3 to take the lead. Once out front Adkins cruised to the win. The second Sportsman feature was a different story. 12 year old Macy Causey of Gloucester, VA led the first four laps before both Junior Carter and Adkins got by for the lead. Carter and Adkins exchanged the lead multiple times with slide jobs in every corner right down to the last lap when Carter got loose in turn four allowing Adkins to go on for his second win of the night. It only took Jimmy Duncan 8 laps to get to the lead of the first Budweiser Modified feature. Once out front Duncan set a blistering pace. Matt Quade tried several times to get inside Duncan and on the last corner got to the inside of Duncan to challenge for the win with Duncan holding to take the victory. In the second Budweiser Modified 15 lap feature started out three wide into turn three with Duncan, Neal Hudgins and Quade all vying for the top spot. Duncan would lead flag to flag but had to hold off Hudgins and Mike Reynolds on several occasions for the sweep of the night’s features. The best racing of the night may have been in the Collision One Limited Stock Twin 12 lap features. In the first feature the race was a six car fight for the win. Brandon Sandridge, Brian Maxey, Wesley Givens, Davis Lipscombe. Shawn Otey and Bobby Curtis all took shots at the lead. On lap 9 Givens finally got under Sandrige for the lead then had to hold the field off for the win. In the second 15 lap feature for the Collision One Limited Stock Cars Otey paced the field for the first 7 laps before he slipped up in turn 4 allowing Givens to take the lead at the line followed by Sandridge. Over the next five laps Givens fended off challenges by Sandridge to pick up the sweep. The speedway will take the weekend of May 11th off and return to racing Saturday May 18th to host the $10,000 to win 34th Annual USA 100 featuring the Ultimate Super Late Model Series. Do not miss your chances to see best super late models drivers on the East Coast in what will be a North versus South slugfest. Night of Twins Produces Ten Different Winners

Jamaica, VA – On a beautiful but chilly night Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway hosted the first of 6 “Twins” nights for the 2013 season. The racing in every division was so exciting and intense it produced ten different winners. Picking up wins were Troy Williams of South Mills, VA and Justin Williams of Shipman, VA in Victory Lap Late Models; Junior Carter of Mechanicsville, VA and Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA in Truckin Thunder Sportsman; Mike Reynolds of Clements, MD and Chris Arnold of Chester, VA in Budweiser Modifieds and Brandon Sandridge of Mechanicsville VA and Brian Maxey of King George, VA in Collision One Limited Stock Cars. Track records were recorded in the Victory Lap Late Models with Justin Williams turning a lap at 18.093 seconds and Chris Arnold breaking his own track record for the second week in a row with a lap of 19.101 seconds. In the Victory Lap Late Model Twin 20’s the action went three wide right off the drop of the green flag. Troy Williams would grab the top spot with John Staton following in close pursuit. On the next circuit Justin Williams took over the runner-up spot and set out to catch Williams for the lead. J. Williams tried several times to get by T. Williams for the lead but T. Williams had enough to go on to his career first late model win. Rounding out the top 5 were Justin Williams, Billy Tucker wins, John Staton and David Puckett. Richard Harden picked up the Fastrak Pro Late Model win. The second late model feature started with a huge pile-up in turn 1 that took out several cars. On the restart John Staton pulled away to take the lead over Justin Williams. A caution on lap 7 closed the field on Staton’s bumper. That is all Williams needed. On the drop of the green flag Willimas dove under Staton in turn one to take the lead and once out front set sail leading the remaining laps to pick up his second win of the season. John Saton, Joe Ender, Stephen Childress and Anthony Kincaid rounded out the top five. David Padual picked up the Fastrak Pro Late Model win. In the first Twin 15 for the Trucking Thunder Sportsman Junior Carter used a three wide pass out of turn 2 on lap 2 to take over second. On lap 4 Carter then used an inside move out of turn 4 to take the lead. Carter survived several restarts after cautions and went on to pick up the win. Davey Pullen, Brett Adkins, Hunter Shelton and Carl Vaughan rounded out the top five. In the final feature for the Truckin Thunder Sportsman Brett Adkins took the lead on the drop of the green flag and dominated the 15 lap affair. Adkins was never challenged and went on to record his second win of the season with Davey Pullen, Hunter Shelton, Tommy Upshaw and Timmy Brinn rounding out the top five. Brinn was the Pitts Lumber rookie of the Race in both twin features. In the first Twin 15 lap event for the Budweiser Modifieds Mike Reynolds took over the top spot on lap 6 when then leader Jimmy Duncan spun in turn 3. Once out front Reynolds set a blistering pace while Chris Arnold kept the rest of the field at bay. Arnold would battle the hard charging Duncan for third while Reynolds went on to win. Chris Arnold, Jimmy Duncan, Matt Quade and Joey Polevoy rounded out the top five. Twin #2 started off three wide with Neal Hudgins leading the first circuit. Chris Arnold took over the top spot on lap 2 with a three wide pass to the outside out of turn 2. Once out front Arnold set sail with Matt Quade trying to close the gap. Quade had one last chance when a caution came out with tow to go. On the restart Arnold pulled away for the win with Quade, Joey Polevoy, Francis Jarrell and Neal Hudgins rounding out the top five. The Collision One Limited Stock Car Twin 12’s were the most entertaining of the evening. In the first feature Brandon Sandridge battled with Travis Hopkins for the first four circuits until muscling his way to the lead on lap 5. Sandridge would then have to hold off Wesley Givens for the remaining eight laps to pick up the win followed by Givens, Brian Maxey, David Bowler and Travis Hopkins. In the second feature for the Collision One Limited Stock division Brian Maxey jumped out to the lead and once out front never looked back. Wesley Givens and Brandon Sandridge did their best to reel in the leader but it was all Maxey as he went on to the win followed by Givens, Sandridge, Travis Hopkins and Brian Bradley rounding out the top five. On the next circuit Chris Arnold rocketed to the lead with his father Dan Arnold in tow. Arnold paced the field unchallenged until lap 12 when defending champion Jimmy Duncan got inside Arnold in turn 1 to briefly take over the top spot only to have Arnold put a slide job on him in turn 4 to regain the top spot. Once out front Arnold worked traffic masterfully and went on to the win. Jimmy Duncan, Joey Polevoy, Charlie Hubbard and Donnie Smith rounded out the top five. Matt Quade picked up the Pitts Lumber rookie of the Race with a eighth place finish. Truckin Thunder Sportsman Tommy Upshaw and Hunter Shelton led the field to green with Shelton leading the first circuit. Behind Shelton Brett Adkins, Upshaw, Junior Carter, James Snead battle for position in the top five. On lap 16 Adkins closed in on the bumper of Shelton. The two began to battle for the top spot and on lap 20 Shelton slid high coming out of four allowing Adkins to get to the inside and take the lead at the line by inches. Once out front Adkins pulled away to pick up the victory. Rounding out the top five were Hunter Shelton, James Snead, Troy Doggett and Thomas Rose rounded out the top five. James Snead was the Pitts Lumber Rookie of the Race. Collision One Limited Stocks Chris Maxey and Ryan Hutchens led the field to green with Hutchens leading the first lap after battling three wide with Brian Maxey and Bob Terry on the drop of the green. On lap 3 Maxey took over the top spot when Hutchens went to the pits with a flat tire. On the next circuit the Wesley Givens began his assault on the top spot with the two drivers racing door to door. On a lap 8 restart Givens dove under Maxey in turn 1 to take the lead. On lap 12 the caution would fly for a horrific flip by Bob Terry in turn 3 bringing out a red flag as the crew worked to get Terry free from his car. Terry would emerge from his demolished ride ok to the delight of the fans on hand. Once the race got back under green Givens motored away from the field to take the win. Rounding out the top five were Brandon Sandridge, Travis Hopkins, Brian Bradley and Daniel Alford. Brian Bradley was the Pitts Lumber Rookie of the Race with his fourth place finish.
