Jonathan Davenport Crowned King of the Commonwealth; Matt Quade Takes Lucky Dog 30

(By Kelley Carlton and Dave Seay) Jamaica, Virginia (April 12, 2014) – The Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth was on Jonathan Davenport and Kevin Rumley’s list of high priority events. Not that every event isn’t important, but the King of the Commonwealth is a victory that both driver and his race team highly coveted. Both have been very successful at Bill Sawyer’s beautiful Virginia Motor Speedway over the years. On Saturday they both added another big check mark to their to-do list when Davenport overtook early leader Billy Moyer, Jr. on lap 17 and held off a hard charging Scott Bloomquist in the late stages of the 60-lapper to claim the $20,000 winner’s check. The win also propelled Davenport into a tie with Chris Madden for the National Dirt Racing League point lead. Davenport was fastest in Group A of Keyser Manufacturing Time Trials lowering the Virginia Motor Speedway track record with his lap of 16.745 seconds around the ½ mile oval. However it was Hall of Famer Scott Bloomquist in Group B who picked up the Bell Helmets Fast Time Award when he obliterated the record Davenport had just set. Bloomquist tripped the clock at a mind boggling 16.509 seconds. Earl Pearson, Jr., Chris Madden and Don O’Neal rounded out the top 5 qualifiers. Heat Race action was insane with wins in the 10 lappers going to Davenport, Billy Moyer, Gregg Satterlee and Billy Moyer, Jr. Finishing second in heats and going to the redraw were O’Neal, Madden Bloomquist and Dennis Erb, Jr. A pair of Delaware drivers – Kenny Pettyjohn and Austin Hubbard scored wins in their respective B-Mains and making the feature event. Series provisional starts went to Kent Robinson, John Blankenship and Mason Zeigler. At the outset of the event it was pole sitter Billy Moyer, Jr. that took command while Davenport sliced through the middle of a 3-wide melee in turn one to move to second. With the remainder of the field locked in a double formation to complete lap one. Moyer moved away as Davenport had to fend of challenges from Billy Moyer and Gregg Satterlee. Madden and Bloomquist were battling door to door while up front Davenport began to reel in Moyer, Jr. as they both began to encounter backmarker traffic. By lap 15 Davenport was all over Moyer, first stepping outside but finally making the move around the hub. Bloomquist slipped by Madden and set after Moyer, Sr. as they both drew to Moyer, Jr.’s rear deck. Over the next several laps the Moyers raced wheel to wheel with the elder finally covering the spot. The pass also allowed Bloomquist to close in on Moyer, Jr. and take another spot away one lap later. After the halfway mark Davenport was in heavy traffic and Moyer, Sr. was able to close down on his fellow Longhorn Chassis driver. Moyer began to put some pressure on Davenport, nosing alongside the leader on multiple occasions. But the race for the lead was quelled when the event’s lone yellow flag waved for a stalled Bub McCool. For the restart Moyer opted for the inside which moved Bloomquist to the outside. When Davenport brought the field back to green Bloomquist made his move for second. Sweeping around the outside of turn 2 Bloomquist took over second and set after the leader. With only 10 laps remaining Bloomquist pulled to Davenport’s rear deck. Bloomquist threw all he had at Davenport but a slick move past a lapped car coming to the white flag sealed the deal. The move gave Davenport just enough open space to grab the checkers and the $20,000 check. In the Budweiser Modified Lucky Dog 30 Matt Quade and Jimmy Duncan led the field to green in search of a $3000 payday. On the start Quade took over the top spot with Duncan in tow. On lap 7 Bret Hamilton would get under Duncan for third. With Quade in total control of the race Hamilton and Joey Polevoy battled for third on lap 18. On lap 23 Polevoy got by Hamilton for third. On lap 26 Ryan Toole took over fourth with a strong move in turn 1. A late caution on lap 28 would close the field on Quade’s bumper for the final restart. As in previous restarts Quade would pull away and go on to the $3000 payday followed by Michael Reynolds, Joey Polevoy, Ryan Toole and Bret Hamilton rounding out the top five. The speedway will return to racing next Saturday April 19th to host opening night of the 2014 season for all five of the Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series divisions. The night will feature the Victory Lap Late Model, Aaron’s Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions. Competitor gates for Saturday April 19th will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday: Victory Lap Late Models (35 Laps); Aaron’s Pro Late Models (25 Laps – If enough to run alone); Budweiser Modifieds (25 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (25 laps) and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars (20 laps). All divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features. Admission price for Adults $12, seniors (60+) $10; military (active/retired w/ proper I.D.) $8, students 13 – 17 years old $6, children 7 to 12 $4 and children 6 and under admitted free. Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth Just 12 Days Away; Ticket Discount Announced

Jamaica, VA – In just a matter of 12 short days the 2014 season gets underway for Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway with the running of the $20,000 to win Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth. That means some of the nations top dirt late model drivers will be making the trip to the ½ mile speed plant located in Jamaica, VA. The event will be sanctioned by the National Dirt Racing League (NDRL) and will feature a 60 lap feature paying the winner a cool $20,000. This will be the first visit to the track by the second year national touring series. A Sunday April 13th rain date has been established if needed. Speedway signs multi-year contract to host the $20,000 to win Fastrak World Championship

Jamaica, VA – After unprecedented interest by competitors in the 2014 $20,000 to win Fastrak World Championship to be held at Virginia Motor Speedway on October 2-4, 2014 officials at both Virginia Motor Speedway and Fastrak Racing are proud to announce that a new contract has been signed that will keep the “Super Bowl” of Pro Late Models at Virginia Motor Speedway through the 2016 season. Speedway releases ticket pricing for April 12th Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth

Virginia Motor Speedway Releases 2014 Schedule

Jamaica, VA – The tentative 2014 schedule for Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway has been released and includes 12 weeks of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action, three special events and two mud bogs. During the 12 weeks of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action the speedway will feature six nights of the very popular twin race format that was utilized during the past two seasons. The track’s always competitive weekly divisions begin their race for the division Championships and the Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series Championship on Saturday April 19th and end with the final point’s race of the season on Saturday September 13th. This year’s division line-up will once again include the Victory Lap Late Models, Aaron’s Pro Late Models, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modifieds and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars. Opening up the 2014 season will be the Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth and feature the first ever visit by the National Dirt Racing League (NDRL). The one day $20,000 event is expected to bring some of the nationals top super late model drivers back to the Commonwealth of Virginia for what will be one of the best races of the year. Returning for 2014 will be the Ultimate Super Late Model Series on Saturday May 17th as they sanction the 35th Annual USA 100. For the first time in 2014 the speedway will host the Super Bowl of Pro Late Model racing, the $20,000 to win Fastrak World Championship on October 2-4th. Virginia Motor Speedway Crowns 2013 Champions

Jamaica, VA – Bill Sawyers Virginia Motor Speedway wrapped up the 2013 season by recognizing the top ten in each of the track’s divisions with special attention reserved for the 2013 champions. During the night’s events almost $34,000 in cash and prizes were awarded, of that almost $26,000 was in cash. During the night’s events it was announced that the Commonwealth 100 would be returning in 2014 on April 12th with National Dirt Racing League (NDRL) sanctioning and pay $20,000 to the winner and that the USA 100 would return on May 17th with the Ultimate Super Late Model Series once again sanctioning the event. More details about both events will be forthcoming. It was also announced that all the track’s divisional sponsors would be returning for the 2014 season and that the track’s Fastrak Pro Late Model division will have Aaron’s, Inc. as the division sponsor and that the division will now have a separate weekly payout and yearly point fund. Justin Williams of Shipman, VA was crowned the 2013 Victory Lap Late Model Champion and received a check for $5,000 for his efforts. Adams also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket. Rounding out the top ten in Victory Lap Late Model points were Billy Tucker of King George, VA; Joe Ender of Glen Allen, VA; Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA; John Staton of Chesapeake, VA; rookie Stephen Childress of St. Stephens Church, VA; David Padula of Greencastle, PA; Corey Almond of Appomattox, VA; Troy Williams of South Mills, NC; and Anthony Kincaid of Hayes, VA David Padula of Greencastle, PA was crowned the very first Fastrak Pro Late Model Champion. Padula received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket. Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA was crowned the 2013 Truckin Thunder Sportsman Champion and received a check for $1,000 for his efforts. It was his career first championship. Adkins also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket. Rounding out the top ten in Truckin Thunder points were Hunter Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA; Junior Carter of Mechanicsville, VA; rookie Troy Doggett of Ruther Glen, VA; Macy Causey of Seaford, VA; Tommy Upshaw of West Point, VA; Brandon Coates of Spotsylvania, VA; Chad Beahr of Mechanicsville, VA; Rookie James Snead of Fredericksburg, VA and Carl Vaughan of Chesapeake, VA. Jimmy Duncan of Fredericksburg, VA was crowned the 2013 Budweiser Modified Champion for the second consecutive season and received a check for $1,000 for his efforts. Duncan also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket. Rounding out the top ten in Budweiser Modified points were rookie Matt Quade of Mechanicsville, MD; Joey Polevoy of Powhatan, VA; Neal Hudgins of Gwynn’s Island, VA; Mike Reynolds of Clements, MD; Charlie Hubbard of Chesapeake, VA; Francis Jarrelle III of Henrico, VA; rookie Jeff Solinger of Bumpass, VA; Aaron Harris of Chester, VA and Dan Arnold of Chesterfield, VA. Brandon Sandridge of Sandston, VA won the Collision One Limited Stock Car Championship. It was his career first championship. Sandridge received a check for $700, a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket. Rounding out the top ten in Collision One Limited Stock Car points were Travis Hopkins of Spotsylvania, VA; Ryan Huthcens of Providence Forge, VA; David Bowler of Gloucester, VA; rookie Brian Bradley of Hopewell, VA; rookie Lucas Ward of Beaverdam, VA; Rick Powers of Richmond, VA, Shawn Otey of Aylett, VA and Chad Champion of Beaverdam, VA. The speedway also crowns an overall Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series Champion which pits all four divisions against each other and in yet another close battle in the eight year history of the championship Truckin Thunder Sportsman Champion Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA beat out Victory Lap Late Model Champion Justin Williams and Budweiser Modified Champion Jimmy Duncan to take the overall championship and the $2000 check and special eagle trophy that goes along with it. Special achievement award winners for the 2012 season included: The Pitts Lumber Rookies of the Year were Stephen Childress in Victory Lap Late Models; Troy Doggett in Truckin Thunder Sportsman; Matt Quade in Budweiser Modifieds and Brian Bradley in the Collision One Limited Stock Car division. Each winner received a plaque and $250. For the first time the speedway presented a Sportsmanship Award and it went to Victory Late Late Model driver Tim Shelton for his dedication to promoting racing at VMS. Also, presented for the first time was the Hard Luck Award and it was given to Collision One Limited Stock Car driver Bob Terry who totaled his car early in the 2013 season in a wild flip. New Sponsor Aaron’s presented him with a new 32″ television, making him a “Lucky Dog”! Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is a 1/2-mile, dirt oval. The track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
