Lathroum Lands Biggest Payday of Career in USA 100; Erwin Doubles up in Modifieds

Jamaica, VA (Lucas Story by James Essex) – Jamie Lathroum of Mechanicsville, MD a former track champion at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway captured the biggest victory of his racing career on Saturday Night taking home the $20,000 first place in the 33rd Annual USA 100. Lathroum took over the lead on lap 18 and held off Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN for the win in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned event. Steve Francis of Ashland, KY led the first 15 laps of the race until Lathroum forged under him coming off of turn four. Francis then jumped the cushion and was forced to stop on the track before contact with the inside guardrail. On the restart Lathroum would pick up the lead of the race, but a big wreck in turn four involving four cars would change the complexion of the top five. Lathroum would maintain the top spot with Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL and John Blankenship of Williamson, WV running in third. Lathroum would build his lead over Pearson and Blankenship as the drivers approached the halfway mark of the race. Blankenship would squeeze by Pearson for second as he began to run down the leader, Lathroum. Blankenship would close the gap in a hurry as he closed to within a car length of Lathroum, who was having difficulty negotiating lapped car. Blankenship would try to pass Lathroum several times, but could never get a good enough run. Lathroum meanwhile stretched his lead out to a comfortable margin over Blankenship, who was now receiving pressure from the duo of Pearson and Bloomquist. Bloomquist would move into the third spot on lap 43 as he tracked down Blankenship and overhauled him on lap 46. Bloomquist then tried to diamond-off the runs in an effort to catch the high-flying Lathroum, but it was to no avail as Lathroum hit his marks lap after lap as he took his car to Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the first time in his career. He becomes the 15th different winner this year in series competition. “This is just awesome,” said Lathroum, who emerged from his MasterSbilt by Huey with tears in his eyes. “This is the biggest win of my career and to outrun Bloomquist, O’Neal and the rest of these guys is just unbelievable, I have to thank my crew, everybody here at Virginia Motor Speedway, my family and the fans,” said the 33-year-old, whose biggest win before tonight was a $10,000 victory in 2009. Lathroum, who captured the late Model track title at VMS back in 2005, said keeping his car away from the bumps and cushion was critical to his success. “I tried to stay away from all of that, there were guys jumping the cushion, it would bite you if you let it, I just tried to be smooth lap after lap and we got it done,” said the driver of the Three Mules Welding, Claar Logging, Superior Tank, The Bowles Boys, Lathroum’s Seafood, Integra, Abell Auto Glass and Eugene Copsey’s Plumbing. His car is powered by an Eatmon Racing Engine. Bloomquist would come home in second followed by Blankenship, Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN, who pitted twice during the race finished fourth and Pearson rounded out the top five. Completing the top ten were: Tyler Reddick of Corning, CA; Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN; Jared Landers of Batesville, AR; Dan Stone of Thompson, PA; and Walker Arthur of Forest, VA. In the Modified Madness 25 for the Budweiser Modifieds Chris Parker of Lumber Bridge, NC got the jump on Dan Arnold of Chester, VA for the lead and kept it until his car slowed on a lap 9 restart handing the lead over to Russell Erwin of Beaverdam, VA. On the restart, Arnold would bring out another caution and head pit side with right front end damage. Erwin would continue with the lead while the rest of the field battled for positions. But no one had anything for Erwin as he would go on to make it a clean sweep during the USA 100 weekend, winning for the second time in his #22 Erwin Racing Supply Shaw. Rounding out the top five were Brandon Galloway, Page Harrison, Bret Hamilton and Craig Ramich. With the round track season now done the speedway will focus on getting ready for Saturday October 6th as The Pit at Virginia Motor Speedway hosts the 8th Annual Run-A-Muck Mud Bog, Mud Sling and Truck Show presented by Rappahannock Tractor and the Virginia Army National Guard. There will be nine classes of “Mud Maniacs” in action ranging from stock to unlimited with cash payouts in all classes. Not only will fans get to see hordes of trucks splashing through the 200 foot Mud Bog pit but they will also get the opportunity to see some of the region’s best Mud Dragsters covering the 200 foot Mud Sling pit in under three seconds. New for this year’s event will be the addition of a truck show for all those guys and gals that don’t like to get their rides dirty. The truck show will help raise funds for the children of the late Chuck Engel. Engel, a frequent competitor in his truck Mud Life Crisis, passed away un-expectantly on July 7th of this year. The funds raised will go to the trust fund set up for his five children. There will be awards given out in multiple categories that will include best Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge and Import. Registration fee for the truck show will be $10. Truck show participants need to be registered by 11:30am. The event will also include a car crushing monster truck freestyle show by Steve Sims in Stone Crusher and Maxey Broadus in Walking Tall. Dennis Anderson and his new creation King Sling will once again be competing in the Unlimited Bog division; that is if it is still in one piece after he goes off in the Freestyle show he has scheduled! Dennis will also be signing autographs and selling souvenirs. Gates and registration will open at 9am with Single Eliminations for Stock A, B; Modified A, B, C, Unlimited Bog, Pro Modified and X, XX classes beginning at 12 noon. Shaver and Francis on Front Row for Saturday’s USA 100; Russell Erwin Sweeps night in Modifieds

Jamaica, VA (Lucas Story by James Essex) – Steve Shaver of Vienna, WV and Steve Francis of Ashland, KY will start on the front row of the 33rd Annual USA 100 on Saturday Night at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned event will pay $20,000 to win. Shaver and Francis each captured their 25-lap qualifying heat races on Friday Night. Jared Landers of Batesville, AR and Jamie Lathroum of Mechanicsville, MD will make-up row number two tomorrow evening. Shaver in the K&L Rumley Enterprises, Rocket Chassis Chevrolet took the lead at the start of the first 25-lapper. The caution flew with one lap complete when LOLMDS point’s leader, Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN spun in turn number two. Chris Madden of Gaffney, SC challenged Shaver for most of the race until a caution with three laps to go cost Madden a runner-up finish. Landers was able to outgun Madden on the restart as he stayed close to Shaver until the checkers flew. Madden came home third, followed by Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA; Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN; Owens; and Kenny Moreland of Waldorf, MD were the final drivers to transfer to tomorrow night’s 50-lap main event from qualifying heat number one. Francis in the Valvoline, Barry Wright Race Cars Chevy stormed to the lead at the start of the second 25-lap qualifier. Lathroum stayed within striking distance of Francis early on in the race, but Francis clearly had the best car on the track as he pulled away to more than a straightaway lead in the late stages of the qualifier. Lathroum was able to hold off the trio of Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA; John Blankenship of Williamson, WV; and Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN to earn the fourth starting spot in tomorrow’s USA 100. The final three drivers to make it out of qualifying heat number two were Austin Hubbard of Seaford, DE; Jerry Bard of Shippensburg, PA; and Jeremy Miler of Gettysburg, PA. In preliminary action, Jimmy Owens set the Red Buck Fast Time amongst the 25 entrants, with a lap of 17.456 seconds. David Williams set the fastest time in Group B with a time of 17.673 seconds. Steve Shaver and Steve Francis won their respective Heat Races. and won their respective B-Mains. Tomorrow Night, the USA 100 at Virginia Motor Speedway will continue for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. Action on the track will kick off at 6:30PM with Hot Laps, B-Main, and the 50-Lap main event, worth $20,000-to-win. In Budweiser Modified action Russell Erwin took out the broom and swept the Modified Madness 25 during night one of the USA 100 weekend. Erwin had to hold off a couple of challenges but led flag to flag to get the $1500 win. Both Jimmy Duncan and Brian Dobie tried to get inside Erwin for the leader on separate occasions but neither could make the pass. The car on the move at the end of the feature was eleventh starting Bret Hamilton who worked his way to third with four laps to go but could not mount a charge to get any closer. Erwin would cruise to the checkers with Brian Dobie, Bret Hamilton, Jimmy Duncan and Brandon Galloway rounding out the top five. Heat race wins went to Eric Erwin, Jimmy Duncan and Joe Cox. The speedway will once again provided fans with a top-flight show at very favorable ticket prices. Adults two-day tickets are $35.00 while seniors (60+) are $28.00; military (active and retired) are $25; students 7-17 are $15.00 and children Under 6 are FREE. Two-day Pit passes will be $50.00. The competitor gates open at 3:00 p.m. while the spectator gates swing open at 4pm. On track action begins at 6:30 pm with hot laps. Championship Night Twin Races Provide Action and Eight Different Winners; 2012 Champions Crowned

Jamaica, VA – Once again officials at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway rolled out the fan favorite “Twin Race” format and once again it delivered eight different winners on Safety-Kleen, Collision One, Pepsi, WIGO Championship night in front of a very large and enthusiastic crowd. Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA and Justin Williams of Shipman, VA took home wins in the Victory Lap Late Model events; Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA and Roger Jamerson of Mechanicsville, VA got wins in Truckin Thunder Sportsman action; Jimmy Duncan of Fredericksburg, VA and Chris Arnold of Chester, VA in Budweiser Modifieds and Stephen Childress of St. Stephens Church, VA and Brian Maxey of King George, VA in Collision One Limited Stock action. The 2012 Virginia Motor Speedway Champions were Scott Adams of Chester, VA (Late Models); Taylor Doggett of Ruther Glen, VA (Sportsman); Jimmy Duncan of Fredericksburg, VA (Modified) and Brian Maxey of King George, VA (Limited Stock). In the first Victory Lap Late Model 25 lap feature Tim Shelton led flag to flag to take home the victory. In the process he closed the point lead going into the final twin race to eight points behind Scott Adams. Behind Shelton the battle for second was spirited with Troy Williams holding off Adams and John Staton for the spot. Justin Williams rounded out the top five. In the second 20 lap feature for the Victory Lap Late Models Justin Williams used his outside starting spot to gain control of the lead, one he would not relinquish as he led flag to flag in dominating fashion for his career first VMS win. Troy Williams once again battle hard for second and would hold off the challenges of John Staton for the spot. Scott Adams and Tim Shelton rounded out the top five. Scott Adams was crowned the 2012 Victory Lap Late Model Champion, his third in a row. The first Truckin Thunder 15 lap feature saw Junior Carter take the lead on the opening circuit with Roger Jamerson in chase. On lap 8 Brett Adkins took over second from Jamerson and set out to catch Carter. On a lap 9 restart Adkins would sweep around the outside of Carter in turn 2 to take over the lead with point leader Taylor Doggett taking second. Adkins would pull away to take the win with Doggett, Roger Jamerson, Junior Carter and Davey Pullen rounding out the top five. In the second 15 lap feature for the Truckin Truckin Thunder Sportsman Roger Jamerson grab the lead on the opening circuit and lead every lap on way to a flag to flag victory. Behind him the battle for second was hot and heavy with Brett Adkins holding off Taylor Doggett for the position. Rounding out the top five were Junior Carter and James Snead. Taylor Doggett would collect his first championship at the speedway. In the first 15 lap event for the Budweiser Modified event it only took six laps for point leader Jimmy Duncan of Fredericksburg, VA to get to the lead and when defending champion Dan Arnold of Chester, VA his chances at his first Budweiser Modified Championship came one step closer. Once out front Duncan pulled away from the battle for second as Page Harrison, Tony Quade and Chris Arnold traded the spot over the remainder of the race. Duncan would go on to take the win with Harrison, Quade, Arnold and Charlie Hubbard rounding out the top five. In the second 15 lap feature for the Budweiser Modifieds Chris Arnold of Chester, VA took the lead on the opening circuit with Tony Quade and Jimmy Duncan battling for second. On lap 5 Duncan tried to get inside Quade for second and would spin in turn 2 sending the point leader to the rear. On the restart Arnold pulled away from the field to score the win with Page Harrison, Jimmy Duncan, Neal Hudgins and Dan Arnold rounding out the top five. Jimmy Duncan would be crowned the 2012 Budwesier Modified Champion. In the first Collision One Limited Stock Car 12 lap feature Bob Terry would battle with point leader Brian Maxey for the lead with the battle for third three wide. Terry would pace the first four laps until Stephen Childress went inside for the lead. With the laps winding down the battle got hot between Childress and Wesley Givens. Givens tried several times to take over the lead the last time coming on the final lap out of turn 4. But Childress had just enough to get the win with Givens, Marty Coltrain, Brian Maxey and Bob Terry rounding out the top five. In the Collision One Limited Stock finale Brian Maxey led flag to flag to not only pick up the victory but also the championship in the process. Wesley Givens tried to mount a charge but had to settle for second with Stephen Childresss, Marty Coltrain and Brandon Sandridge rounding out the top five. The speedway will take the weekend of September 8th off due to the NASCAR races at Richmond International Raceway and return Friday and Saturday September 14 – 15th to host the $20,000 to win 33rd Annual USA 100. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will once again sanction the event. In last year’s edition eventual winner Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN and Steve Francis of Ashland, KY battle door handle to door handle for 32 laps before rains shorted the event. A fan friendly format will see the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series competitors qualifying and running two 25 lap qualifiers on Friday September 14th. On Saturday September 15th they will have B-Mains and the 50 lap $20,000 finale. The weekend’s events will also include two complete shows for the modifieds paying $1500 to win for each show. This year’s Mod Madness Twin 25’s will allow AMRA, UMP, IMCA, TSMA, NDRA rules for this year’s event. Because of the open rules some of the best modified competitors on the East Coast are expected to be in attendance. The speedway will once again provided fans with a top-flight show at very favorable ticket prices. Adults two-day tickets are $35.00 while seniors (60+) are $28.00; military (active and retired) are $25; students 7-17 are $15.00 and children Under 6 are FREE. Two-day Pit passes will be $50.00. Fan Promotion Huge Success with Help of Virginia Motor Speedway Drivers

Jamaica, VA – For two weeks prior to the Saturday August 18th historic Scout Night at the Virginia Motor Speedway, competitors at the high-speed half-mile clay oval handed out free passes to their family members, friends and co-workers to invite them out to watch them race. What followed was a record setting weekly audience for the facility. An estimated crowd of nearly 4,000 people packed the facility for a picture-perfect night of racing which included a twin race format that excited all those in attendance. “This was a really successful promotion that we hope will lead to larger crowds at all of our future events. We have been inundated with emails and phone calls from first time visitors that really enjoyed themselves and we want to thank everyone that participated in the promotion,” commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer. After sorting and counting nearly 2,200 free passes, Virginia Motor Speedway officials are pleased to announce the top recruits and winners of some fantastic awards. The Victory Lap Late Model division produced the top two recruiters with Joe Ender of Glen Allen, VA topping all drivers with 274 fans filtering through the gates with a free pass embellished with his name and car number. The Victory Lap Late Model leading rookie will receive a set of tires courtesy of Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA finished a close second with 255 passes returned and will receive twenty gallons of Sunoco Racing Fuel courtesy of Hank Thomas Performance. Ten gallons of Sunoco Racing Fuels will go to Truckin Thunder Sportsman rookie Thomas Rose of Gloucester, VA who finished third, Truckin Thunder Sportsman driver Tommy Upshaw finishing fourth and Budweiser Modified rookie Donnie Smith of Fredericksburg, VA finishing fifth in the final free pass count. Record Crowd Sees Eight Different Winners in Eight Races

Jamaica, VA – On a day that started out looking as if Mother Nature would win again the skies turned blue and provided a beautiful night for racing at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway on Truckin Thunder Scout Night presented by the Virginia Army National Guard. With a packed house on hand the drivers didn’t disappoint as they put on a tremendous show for the record setting crowd with Billy Tucker of King George, VA besting Tim Shelton Fredericksburg, VA in a photo finish in the first Victory Lap Late Model 20 lap feature; while Scott Adams led flag to flag in the second late model feature to pick up this victory. Other winners included Stephen Childress of St. Stephens Church, VA and Hunter Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA in Truckin Thunder Sportsman action. It was Shelton’s career first victory. In the Budweiser Modified division Jimmy Duncan of Fredericksburg, VA and Dan Arnold of Chester, VA getting the wins and in the Collision One Limited Stock Cars Wesley Givens of Mechanicsville, VA and Bobby Curtis of Richmond, VA picking up the victories. It was Curtis’s career first at the speedway. In the first of two 20 lap events for the Victory Lap Late Model division Billy Tucker of King George, VA took over the top spot on lap 4 when then race leader Derick Quade broke coming out of turn 2 ending his night. Tucker would then battle with Tim Shelton for the top spot over the remaining 16 laps for the lead. On the white flag lap Shelton got went to the outside of Tucker in turn 1 with the two side by side to the checkers with tucker nipping Shelton at the lin by inches for his second win of the season. Rounding out the top five were David Puckett, Troy Williams and Justin Williams. In the second 20 lap race for the Victory Lap Late Models two-time and defending late model champion Scott Adams of Chester, VA led flag to flag in picking up his third win of the season. Behind him Troy Williams made a lst lap pass of our turn 4 to take second by inches over David Puckett at the line. Billy Tucker and Tim Shelton rounded out the top five. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division defending Sportsman champion Todd Traylor led the first six laps with Junior Carter and Stephen Childress in close pursuit. On lap seven The battle went three wide out of turn 2 for the lead with Childress taking the lead out of turn 4. That would be all Childress would need as he would go on to take the victory. Rounding out the top five were Junior Carter, Todd Traylor, J.R. Guy and Hunter Shelton. In the second 15 lap event for the Truckin Thunder Sportsman Taylor Doggett would lead the first four laps with Hunter Shelton in tow. On lap 5 Shelton made his move to the inside of Doggett out of turn 4 and took the lead at the line. Shelton would have to fend off Doggett for two more restarts but would go on to take his career first win in front of the very enthusiastic crowd. Rounding out the top five were Taylor Doggett, Junior Carter, Brett Adkins and J.R. Guy. The Budweiser Modifieds defending champion Dan Arnold paced the first seven laps before spinning in turn 2 handing the lead over to current point leader Jimmy Duncan. Duncan would hold off a couple of challenges by Mike Reynolds before seizing control and going on to score his third win of the season. Mike Reynolds, Brandon Galloway, Dan Arnold and Page Harrison rounded out the top five. In the second 15 lap event for the Budweiser Modifieds Dan Arnold again led the field to green this time he didn’t make any mistakes and would hold off the challenges of Jimmy Duncan to collect the win. The action on the track was from Chris Arnold who worked his way from his 11th palce starting position to score a third place finish with Mike Reynolds and Brandon Galloway rounding out the top five. In the Collision One Limited Stock Car division the father and son duo of Wesley and james Givens led the field to green with the son (Wesley) taking command on the opening circuit. Even though the field stayed close the younger Givens would hold off his father and the rest of the field for the win. Rounding out the top fiev were Brian Maxey, Brandon Sandridge and Bobby Curtis. In the 12 lap finale for the Collision One Limited Stocks Bobby Curtis led flag to flag to pick up his career first win at the speedway. Curtis had to hold off Brian Maxey for the entire distance for the hard fought win. Rounding out the top five were Wesley Givens, Marty Coltrain and Brandon Sandridge. In the speedway’s first ever Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby Zac Linkous of Collinsville, VA and Pack 166 won the overall championship as well as the Scout division. Sierra Hollingsworth of Bealeton, VA won the Fans division and Hunter Shelton won the competitors division. Mother Nature Takes Another One

Jamaica, VA – Officials of Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway waited it out as they could before canceling the nights events for Saturday August 11th as rain and the forecast for more of the same resulted in the fifth cancellation of the season. With only two more weeks of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series Championship racing left the next two events will be important in crowning this year’s champions. The speedway will return to racing Saturday August 18th for the rescheduled Truckin Thunder Scout Night presented by the Virginia Army National Guard and week fourteen of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action. The night’s activities will include the 1st Annual Truckin Thunder Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby presented by the Virginia Army National Guard that will precede the action at the big track. There will be three divisions of competition for the pinewood derby – Scouts, Fans and VMS competitors. Gates will open at 3pm for registration and the 1st Annual Dirtwood Nationals will start at 4pm. After the pinewood derby everyone is invited to stay for a night filled with exciting high octane, side by side dirt track racing and fireworks. All Scouts and Scout Masters in uniform will be admitted free in the grandstands. See the Victory Lap Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in a special twin race format. Competitor gates for Saturday, August 18th will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday: Victory Lap Late Models (Twin 20 Laps); Budweiser Modifieds (Twin 15 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (Twin 15 laps) and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars (Twin 12 laps). Speedway Re-instates Brian Dobie’s modified win after Rules Clarification

Jamaica, VA – After reviewing the 2012 Modified rules for claiming, officials have determined that a mistake was made in the claim process by taking a check as payment. Section 15.1 of the 2012 rule book states that the claim must be made in cash at the time of the claim. Because of this oversight by the track staff the disqualification of the Brian Dobie for not excepting the claim has been overturned and the win has been re-instated. As of Monday August 12, 2012 Virginia Motor Speedway’s claim policy for motors and shocks will suspended until further review....

Special Twin Night Produces Seven Different Winners

Jamaica, VA – After four rain outs in a row Mother Nature tried to dampen the night’s activities at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway with a brief shower during qualifying. After a 60 minute delay officials worked the track back into racing condition and continued activities for Chandler Chevrolet night. The action on the track turned out to be as hot as the temperatures outside. In the first 20 lap twin for the Victory Lap Late Models saw Troy Williams and John Staton leading the field to green with Williams leading the first circuit. On the next lap Williams would slip in turn 2 allowing Tim Shelton to take over the top spot. For the next seventeen laps it looked as if Shelton would cruise to the win but a caution on lap 18 closed the field on his bumper for a green, white checker finish. On the restart Shelton had Troy Williams glued to his bumper. Williams would get inside Shelton coming to the checkers with Shelton nipping him at the line by inches for the win. Rounding out the top five were Scott Adams, Billy Tucker and John Staton. “We got a little loose at the end and (Troy) Williams almost got us at the line. It feels great to be back in victory lane,” commented Shelton in victory lane. In the second 20 lap feature for the Victory Lap Late Models Billy Tucker and Scott Adams led the field to green with Adams taking control out of turn 2. Adams would dominate with the battle behind him for second between Billy Tucker, Tim Shelton, Troy Williams and John Staton. Adams would lead flag to flag to pick up the victory. “We made some changes to the car during the break that really made the car come around for us, I can’t thank my crew enough for the job they didi,” commented Adams in victory lane. Rounding out the top five were Billy Tucker, John Staton, Troy Williams and Tim Shelton. Other winners included Taylor Dogget taking both Truckin Thunder Sportsman features. Brandon Galloway and Mike Reynolds got wins in Budweiser Modified action; Stephen Childress and Brian Maxey in Collision One Limited Stock Car action. Budweiser Modifieds In the first 15 lap feature for the Budweiser Modifieds Brandon Galloway and Joey Polevoy led the field to green with Galloway leading the first circuit. Galloway was on a roll and pulled away from the battle for second between Polevoy and Mike Reynolds. The races only caution came on lap 7 and tightened the field on Galloway’s bumper for the restart. On the restart Galloway once again pulled away from Polevoy and the rest of the field. The fastest car in the track may have been Dan Arnold who worked his way from twentieth to sixth with 5 laps to go. No one would catch Galloway as he went onto score the win. Joey Polevoy, Mike Reynolds, Jimmy Duncan and Brian Dobie rounding out the top five. In the second 15 lap feature Dan Arnold and Brian Dobie led the field to green after inverting the top 6 prior to the green flag. Arnold would take the lead out of turn 2 with Jimmy Duncan following to second. On lap 2 caution would fly as Mike Reynolds came to stop with a flat tire on turn 4. On the restart the battle for the top spot would heat up between Arnold and Duncan. On lap 4 Duncan got inside Arnold coming out of turn 4 with Arnold holding onto the lead by inches. Duncan looked to have momentum until caution came out again for a wreck in turn 4. On the lap 5 restart Duncan looked inside of Arnold for the lead but would spin in turn 2 collecting six cars in the process. Over the next ten laps Arnold and Brian Dobie put on a show for the fans with Arnold holding off Dobie until the white flag lap when Dobie got under Arnold heading into turn 1 taking the spot. Arnold would try a cross over move with the two making contact coming out of turn 2. Arnold would try to battle back but Dobie would go on to take the victory. Truckin Thunder Sportsman In the first 15 lap feature for the Truckin Thunder Sportsman Davey Pullen and Junior Carter led the field to green with Carter taking the advantage out of turn 4 to lead the opening lap. Carter hold off several challenges in the first 9 laps of the event. On lap 10 Taylor Doggett used a three wide pass on the outside of Carter and Todd Traylor to take the lead and the win. Rounding out the top five were Junior Carter, J.R. Guy, Stephen Childress and James Snead. In the second 15 lap feature it took sixth starting Taylor Doggett 10 laps to work his way to the lead with another outside pass out of turn 2. He would go on to capture his second win of the night. Rounding out the top five were Hunter Shelton, Junior Carter, Brett Adkins and J.R. Guy. Collision One Limited Stock Cars In the First 12 lap feature for the Collision One Limited Stock Cars Stephen Childress took the lead on the opening lap and never looked back taking the win over Brain Maxey, Wesley Givens, Bob Terry and Marty Coltrain. In the second 12 lap feature Bob Terry and Wesley Givens battled for the lead for the first 5 laps before getting together in turn 1 and giving the elad to Stephen Childress. On a lap 9 restart Childress’s car began to have motor issues giving the lead to Brian maxey who went on to score the victory. Brandon Sandridge, Bobby Curtis, Daniel Loth and David Bowler rounded out the top five. The speedway will return to racing next Saturday August 11th to host Virginia Army National Guard Night and week thirteen of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action. Jamaica, VA – It seems when it rains it pours as Mother Nature once again brought rains on a Saturday afternoon forcing officials of Bill Sawyer’s to cancel racing activities for Truckin Thunder Scout Night presented by the Virginia Army National Guard on Saturday, July 21st. The cancellation was the fifth of the season and fourth in a row. “This is very frustrating, we just seem to be in an unfavorable weather pattern that has given us rain the last four weeks in a row,” commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer. Truckin Thunder Scout Night presented by the Virginia Army National Guard has been rescheduled for Saturday August 18th. The night’s activities will include the 1st Annual Truckin Thunder Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby presented by the Virginia Army National Guard that will precede the action at the big track. There will be three divisions of competition for the pinewood derby – Scouts, Fans and VMS competitors. Gates will open at 3pm for registration and the 1st Annual Dirtwood Nationals will start at 4pm. The speedway will return to racing Saturday August 4th for Chandler Chevrolet Night and twelve of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action. See the Victory Lap Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in action. Competitor gates for Saturday, August 4th will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday: Victory Lap Late Models (35 Laps); Budweiser Modifieds (25 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (25 laps) and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars (20 laps). All divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features. Admission price for Adults $12, seniors (60+) $10; military (active/retired w/ proper I.D.) $8, students 13 – 17 years old $6, children 7 to 12 $4 and children 6 and under admitted free. We offer a family pass for $25 (two adults and two children 12 and under). Pit passes will be $20. To enhance the fans racing experience the speedway has installed a short wave FM transmitter and all of the evening’s action can be heard at 95.5 FM. Mother Nature Scores Again Cancelling Racing for Saturday July 14th

Impending storms and electrical issues have forced officials of Bill Sawyer’s to cancel racing activities for the third week in a row. “This is extremely upsetting but with the impending storms and the electrical issues at the speedway we felt it was necessary to cancel tonight’s racing program,” commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer. The speedway will return to racing Saturday July 21st for the rescheduled Truckin Thunder Scout Night presented by the Virginia Army National Guard and week eight of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action.
