Speedway Releases 2016 Schedule

Jamaica, VA – The tentative 2016 schedule for Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway has been released and includes 13 weeks of Aaron’s Dirt Series action, three special events and two mud bogs. The track’s always competitive weekly divisions begin their race for the division Championships and the Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship on Saturday April 2nd and end with the final point’s race of the season on Saturday September 3rd. This year’s division line-up will include the Victory Lap Pro Late Models, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modifieds and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars. The first special event of 2016 will be the Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth sanctioned by the very popular Ultimate Super Late Model Series. The one day $20,000 event is expected to bring some of the nationals top super late model drivers back to the Commonwealth of Virginia for what will be one of the best races of the year. The Ultimate Super Late Model Series will then return on Saturday June 4th as they sanction the 38th Annual Tire-X USA 100. This year’s event will get a purse increase that will have the winner taking home a $15,000 check. The event will also be part of a four race mini-series billed as the Colonial Clash Championship presented by Dirt Nation. The series will start at Georgetown Speedway on Tursday June 2nd for a $4000 to win event, then head to Potomac Speedway on Friday June 3rd for a $5000 to win event; the third event will be the $15,000 to win Tire-X USA 100 on Saturday June 4th with the final event being a $5000 affair at Winchester Speedway. The mini-series will also have a $15,000 point fund with $4000 going to the champion and pay the top 15 in points. To be eligible for the point fund drivers must attempt to race all four events. After a successful debut in 2015 the speedway will again host two, $3000 to win Fastrak Pro Late Model “National Tour” events in conjunction with the two super late model events, making both events a late model fans dream. For two year’s in a row the Fastrak World Championship has produced some of the best racing ever seen at the speedway. The event returns to the 2016 schedule and will be contested on September 16 – 17th. The “Super Bowl” of Pro Late Model racing will now be an open event allowing any competitor to compete with no restrictions other than car must meet and pass Fastrak rules. The event will feature the $5000 to win World Challenge on Friday, September 16th and the $15,000 to win finale on Saturday, September 17th that will crown the Fastrak Pro Late Model World Champion. More details about the Fastrak World Championship will be released in the very near future. Along with the weekly racing action and the special events the speedway will also host two mud bogs at its state of the art mud bog facility that will be celebrating its eleventh year of racing. On Saturday May 21st “The Pit at VMS” will host the 9th Annual Down and Dirty Mud Mayhem and on Saturday October 8th the 12th Annual Down and Dirty Run-A-Muck Mud Bog and Mud Sling presented by James River Equipment and Commonwealth Motor Sports. Jamaica, VA – Bill Sawyers Virginia Motor Speedway officially wrapped up the 2015 season by recognizing the top ten in each of the track’s divisions with special attention reserved for the 2015 champions. During the night’s events almost $39,000 in cash and prizes were awarded, of that almost $32,000 was in cash. Justin Williams of Concord, VA was crowned the 2015 Victory Lap Late Model Champion for the third year in a row and received a check for $5,000 for his efforts. Williams also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography, his Championship helmet trophy and his Champions jacket from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. Williams became only the third driver to win 3 titles in a row. Tyler Bare of Rockbridge Baths, VA was crowned the Aaron’s Pro Late Model Champion. Bare became the tracks first ever third generation driver to win a championship at the speedway. The young Bare joins his grandfather Tommy Bare (Late Model – 1980) and father Booper Bare (Super Late Models – 2003, 2004) in winning tracks titles at the ½ mile facility. Bare received a check for $1,000, a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography, his Championship helmet trophy, his Champions jacket from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic and a 40” HD / Blueray combo television from sponsor Aaron’s. Chad Beahr of Mechanicsville, VA was crowned the 2015 Truckin Thunder Sportsman Champion and received a check for $1,000 for his efforts. Beahrs also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography, his Championship helmet trophy and his Champions jacket from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. Matt Quade of Mechanicsville, MD was crowned the 2015 Budweiser Modified Champion, his second championship in a row. Quade received a check for $1,000, a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography, his Championship helmet trophy and his Champions jacket from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. Ryan Hutchens of Providence Forge, VA won the Collision One Limited Stock Car Championship. It was his career first championship. Hutchens received a check for $700, a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography his Championship helmet trophy and his Champions jacket from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. The speedway also crowns an overall VMS Dirt Series Champion which pits all five divisions against each other. Ryan Hutchens became the first ever Collision One Limited Stock Car driver to ever win the overall Championship and received a $2000 check and the special eagle trophy that goes along with winning the title. Jamaica, VA – Virginia Motor Speedway will celebrate the 2015 season and officially bring it to a close with the 2015 Awards Banquet on Saturday, October 24, 2015. The event will once again be held at the beautiful Double Tree Hotel and Resort in Virginia Beach, VA. Tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased printing off the order form (2015 ORDER FORM) or by calling Dave Seay or Brian Tidball at the Speedway’s office Monday through Friday between the hours of 10am and 3pm. Tickets can be purchased with a Mastercard, Visa or Discover by calling the speedway. Tickets for this special occasion are only $40 per person and include a buffet dinner and the Awards Ceremony. Special room rates of $65 per night have been established with the newly renovated Double Tree Hotel & Resort and $58 per night at the Quality Inn Oceanfront. At both hotels ask for the VA MOTOR SPEEDWAY RATE. All Virginia Motor Speedway drivers, crews and families are encouraged to attend this year’s banquet. There are no limits on the number of tickets a person can order. All ticket purchases must be made by October 19, 2014. Fans of Virginia Motor Speedway are once again invited to attend the Awards Banquet. During the evenings award ceremony over $55,000 in cash and contingencies will be handed out to the Speedway’s five Champions and the remainder of the top 10 in each division. The Victory Lap Late Model Champion will receive $5,000 for winning his championship. The Speedway will also crown the 2015 VMS Dirt Series Champion and award him or her with a $2000 check. The VMS Dirt Series Championship pits all of the Speedway’s competitors against each other and crowning one overall Champion. Jamaica, VA – Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway returns to racing this Saturday September 5th to host Collision One / Aaron’s Championship Night and final week of the 2015 VMS Dirt Series season featuring the Victory Lap Late Model, Aaron’s Pro Late Model, Budweiser Modified, Truckin Thunder Sportsman and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in action. Champions in all five divisions will be determined by night’s end. In the Aaron’s Pro Late Model division third generation driver Tyler Bare of Rockbridge Baths, VA continues atop the standings even after second place Mark Parks of Lynchburg, VA picked up the win this past Saturday. Bare’s advantage over Parks is now 34 points. If Bare holds on to collect the championship he will become the third generation of his family to win a championship at the speedway. In the Budweiser Modified division defending champion Matt Quade Mechanicsville, MD continues to lead the points although he gave up one point this past Saturday in a race that featured him in a three way battle for the win with Joey Polevoy and eventual race winner Brian Maxey. Quade has a 25 point lead on Joey Polevoy of Powhatan, VA as they head into the final event. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division Chad Beahr of Mechanicsville, VA rebounded from a terrible finish on August 15th with a third place finish on Saturday. Beahr got back some of the points he had lost and now holds a 25 point advantage over Tommy Upshaw of West Point, VA. Former track champion Roger Jamerson of Mechanicsville, VA will try one more time to collect his 200th career victory before the season ends. And in the Collision One Limited Stock Car division Ryan Hutchens of Providence Forge, VA continues atop the standings with a 30 point advantage over Chad Champion of Beaverdam, VA. Mark Parks Holds Off Booper Bare for Aaron’s Pro Late Model Win; J. Williams, Maxey, Ashworth and Otey Also Grab Wins

Jamaica, VA – Mark Parks of Lynchburg, VA held off a hard charging Booper Bare of Rockbridge Baths, VA to take home the victory in the Aaron’s Pro Late Model division at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway on Northern Neck Chevrolet / Pepsi / WIGO Night. “Getting a win here is so tough and to hold off Booper Bare is even tougher; I have to thank my crew from giving me such a great car tonight,” commented Parks in victory lane. Parks grabbed the lead on the drop of the green flag with Lipscombe holding onto second. Bare got inside Lipscombe on lap 4 to take over second and then set out to reel in Parks. Parks used the low side while Bare worked the cushion as the two pulled away from the battle for third between Lipscombe and Tyler Bare. On lap 18 Bare changed his line and looked inside Parks in turn 1 but Parks was up to the task and held on to the top spot. Several restarts allowed Bare a chance to get by Parks only to have to settle for second. Parks would go on to collect his second win of the season. Following Parks to the finish were Booper Bare, Davis Lipscombe, Tyler Bare and Ricky Wells. In other action Justin Williams of Concord, VA came from sixth to take the win in the Victory Lap Late Model feature; in the Budweiser Modified division Brian Maxey of King George, VA held off Joey Polevoy and Matt Quade to score the win; in the Truckin Thunder Sportsman feature Matt Ashworth of Mechanicsville, VA claimed the lead from James Snead of Fredericksburg, VA on lap 14 and went on to collect the win and in the Collision One Limited Stock Cars Shawn Otey of Aylett, VA scored a hard fought victory on his 40th birthday. It took defending champion and current point leader Justin Williams of Concord, VA seventeen laps to take over the lead from his sixth place starting position; but once out front he set sail on way to his sixth win of the season. Williams set fast time and inverted the top six drivers for the start. By lap 8 he was in third battling David Williams for second. On lap 12 David Williams scrapped the backstretch wall out of turn 2 opening the door for Justin Williams to take over second. On lap 16 got under leader Billy Hubbard out of turn 2 to take over the lead and go on to take his sixth victory of the season. Rounding out the top 5 were Michael Batten, Stephen Childress, Brandon Long and Anthony Kincaid. In the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature Brian Maxey of King George, VA withstood a tough battle with Joey Polevoy and Matt Quade to score his second win of the season. Maxey and Hunter McClendon led the field to green with Maxey taking the top spot out of turn 2. Maxey and Qaude battled back and forth for the lead over the first 13 laps and on lap 14 came up on slower traffic. The two touched in turn 4 with Maxey keeping his momentum and leaving Quade to deal with Polevoy. With Polevoy and Quade battling for second Maxey went on to score the win. Rounding out the top 5 were Polevoy, Quade, Brent Bordeaux and Josh Harris. Matt Ashworth of Mechanicsville, VA took the lead from James Snead of Fredericksburg, VA on lap 13 out of turn 4 after Snead bobbled heading into the corner. Ashworth then went on to score his second win of the season. Ashworth worked his way from his seventh place starting position getting to Snead’s rear bumper by lap 6. Ashworth tried several times to get by for the lead but the bobble on lap 13 was what he needed to grab the tp spot and go onto the win. Rounding out the top 5 were Snead, Chad Beahr, Roger Jamerson and Jeremiah Marshall. David Bowler and Shawn Otey led the Collision One Limited Stock field to green with Otey taking the top spot out of turn 2 followed by James Givens in second. The two traded paint for several laps swapping the lead back and forth. On lap 12 it looked as if Givens would take the lead out of turn 2 but caution flew sending Otey back to the top spot for the restart. On the restart the two made contact several times allowing Stephen Childress to join the battle for the lead. On the next lap Givens and Childress got together sending them to the rear for the restart. Otey would go on to score the win in his first race of 2015 on his 40th birthday. Rounding out the top 5 were Chad Champion, Ryan Hutchens, Michael Hayes and Marty Coltrain. Walker Arthur Makes Late Pass to Win Aaron’s Pro Late Model Feature; David Williams, Bret Hamilton, Matt Ashworth and Ryan Hutchens Also Win

Jamaica, VA – Walker Arthur of Forest, VA put on a show on his way to picking up his first Aaron’s Pro Late Model win of the season at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway. Arthur would work the cushion and pass then leader Davis Lipscombe on lap 22 out of turn 4 to take the lead and go on to the victory. Ricky Wells and Davis Lipscombe led the field to green with Lipscombe gaining control out of turn 2 to take the lead. Lipscombe pulled away to as much as a full straight lead as Wells, Arthur and Mark Parks battled for second. Arthur finally secured second from Wells on lap 11 out of turn 4. Arthur, using the cushion, began reeling in Lipscombe as the two worked through lapped traffic. On lap 20 Arthur had finally caught Lipscombe in turn 2. Lipscombe worked to keep Arthur at bay but as they exited turn 4 on lap 22 Arthur rocketed by to take the lead at the line. Arthur would go on to capture his first victory of the season. “The track was really fast tonight and the outside was working for me; it feels great to finally get this car back in victory lane,” commented Arthur in victory lane. Rounding out the top five were Davis Lipscombe, Mark Parks, fast qualifier Tyler Bare and Ricky Wells. In other action David Williams of Mechanicsville, MD picked up his second Victory Lap Late Model win; Bret Hamilton of Powhatan, VA would score his first Budweiser Modified win of the season; Matt Ashworth would score his first Truckin Thunder Sportsman victory and Ryan Hutchens of Providence Forge, VA would hold off Chris Champion for the win in Collision One Limited Stock Cars. In the Victory Lap Late Model 30 lap feature David Williams and Bill Hubbard led the field to green with Hubbard taking advantage from the outside to take the lead out of turn 2. Hubbard would pace the field with Williams and Stephen Childress battling for second. A caution on lap 6 saw the current point leader Justin Williams hit the wall in turn 1 ending his night. On the restart Williams and Childress battled for second while Hubbard pulled away. Williams would secure second on lap 8 and set out to catch Hubbard who had moved out to an eight car length lead. On lap 10 Williams swept outside Hubbard coming out of turn for to take the lead. A caution on lap 19 for Hubbard, who exploded a rearend , closed the field up for the final restart. On the restart Williams pulled away and went on to collect his second win of the season. Rounding out the top five were Childress, Billy Tucker, Anthony Kincaid and Joe Ender. In the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature Bret Hamilton and Josh Harris led the field to green with Harris securing the top spot out of turn 2. Harris, Hamilton and Joey Polevoy battled for the top spot over the first 20 laps. On lap 20 Harris began showing smoke and on lap 21 Hamilton took advantage by diving under him in turn 1 to take the lead. Polevoy got by Harris in turn 1 on the following circuit but could not reel in the leader Hamilton who went on to take the win. Polevoy, Harris, William Mongold and Brent Bordeaux rounded out the top five. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 20 lap feature Matt Ashworth and Troy Doggett led the field to green with Ashworth taking the lead out of turn 2. Behind him Jeremiah Marshall, James Snead and Roger Jamerson all battled for second. The races only caution on lap 13 closed the field on Ashworth’s bumper for the restart. On the restart Ashworth pulled away and went on to take his first win of the season. Marshall, Snead, Joe Weiss and Roger Jamerson rounded out the top five. In the Collision One Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature David Bowler and Chad Champion led the field to green with Stephen Childress coming from his fourth place starting position to lead the first circuit. Childress pulled away as Champion, Brian Bradley, Ryan Hutchens and James Givens all battled for second. Givens would muscle his way to second by lap 10 and set out to reel in Childress. On lap 17 Childress would break in turn 2 and collect Givens in the process, sending both to the pits. Givens would return to the rear of the field as Hutchens lead the field back to green. On the final lap Chris Champion worked to get inside Hutchens down the backstretch with Cory Bradley right on his bumper. Hutchens led the three of them out of turn four to the line and picked up his third win of the season. Chris Champion, Cory Bradley, Blair Sibley and Marty Coltrain rounded out the top 5.
