Justin Williams scores eighth Late Model victory; Adkins gets fifth win; Powell, Polevoy and Hutchens all take first victories of the season

Jamaica, VA – What looked to be a race long battle in the Victory Lap Late Model feature between Billy Hubbard of Gloucester, VA and Justin Williams of Shipman, VA turned into a runaway win by Williams when Hubbard broke on lap 17 while leading. Williams would cruise to his eighth win of the season at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway. In other action Jared Powell (Aaron’s Pro Late Model), Joey Polevoy (Budweiser Modified), Brett Adkins (Truckin Thunder Sportsman) and Hutchens (Collision One Limited Stock Car) all picked up wins. Anthony Kincaid and Billy Hubbard led the Victory Lap Late Model field to green for their 30 lap feature with Hubbard rocketing to the lead followed by Justin Williams who started sixth. Tucker and Williams were both on a rail with Williams looking to the outside for the lead. On lap 12 Hubbard bobbled in turn 2 but Williams had to check up so he wouldn’t run Hubbard over. For the next five laps the two battled for the top spot until Hubbard broke in turn 2 handing the lead to Williams. Williams would go unchallenged the rest of the way to take his eighth win of the season. Billy Tucker, John Staton, Buck Roadcap and Stephen Childress followed to the checkers. Jared Powell led all but the final two laps of the Aaron’s Pro Late Model feature and looked to have finished second to Daniel Baggerly. That was until Baggerly’s car came up two pounds light at the scales handing the win to Powell. It was Powell’s first win of the season. It took a couple of starts to get the Pro Late Model feature under green but once it did Powell took control of the top spot. For the next 14 laps Thompson tried every possible way around to Powell for the lead. On lap 15 Daniel Baggerly took over second and reeled in the leader. Baggerly went to work on Powell, working both high and low. As the two came out of four to the white flag Baggerly took over the top spot and held on to what looked like the win. At the scales Baggerly’s car came up light awarding the win to Powell. Mark Parks, Bobby Thompson, Tyler Bare and Jimmy Duncan rounded out the top five. Joey Polevoy used a front row starting position to take control of the lead and go on to take his first win of the season. Polevoy and Lance Grady led the field to green with Polevoy rocketing to the top spot. Brian Maxey followed Poelvoy to take second. Maxey tried several times to get under Polevoy but each time was turned away. A late caution with three to go gave Maxey one last chance but Polevoy was able to hold on for the victory. Maxey, Grady, Francis Jarrelle III and Brandon Galloway rounded out the top five. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman Davey Pullen and Brett Adkins led the field to green with Adkins grabbing the lead out of turn 2. Once out front Adkins pulled away from the rest of the field. Behind the leader they battled for second. Pullen, Matt Ashworth, Jeremiah Marshall and Junior Carter all worked to take over the runner up spot. No one had anything for Adkins as he cruised to his fifth win of the season. Pullen, Carter, Hunter Shelton and Marshall rounded out the top five. Ryan Hutchens took the lead in the Collision One Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature with two to go and then hold off everyone off on the final restart to take home his career first victory. Andrew Tarbox and Brian Bradley led the field to green with Bradley taking the lead out of turn 2. Bradley held off challenges from several drivers until lap 18 when seventh starting Hutchens drove under him on lap 17 to take the lead. On the next lap a caution would close the field on his bumper for a green, white checker finish. On the restart Hutchens pulled away to get his career first win. Stephen Childress, Brandon Sandridge, Bradley and Chad Champion were the balance of the top five. The speedway will take next weekend off and return to racing on Saturday August 30th for VA Army National Guard “Salute to the Fallen” Tribute Night. The night will feature the Victory Lap Late Model, Aaron’s Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in action. To honor our military the speedway will admit all military personnel active or retired with proper ID in free. The night’s events will honor the ten Virginia Army National Guard soldiers lost in combat. The Virginia Army National Guard will have several displays of which will include a special wrapped race car, designed by high school students, honoring those lost in combat. Also tentatively scheduled to be on hand will be Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s #88 National Guard Chevrolet for fans to see up close and get pictures. Competitor gates for Saturday August 30th will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps and features will start at 8pm. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday: Victory Lap Late Models (30 Laps); Aaron’s Pro Late Models (25 Laps); Budweiser Modifieds (25 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (25 laps) and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars (20 laps). Speedway returns to action this Saturday August 16th; Point Battles Heating Up

Jamaica, VA – Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor The speedway will be in action this Saturday August 16th to host Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series “Dirt Track” Saturday Night. The evening will feature the Victory Lap Late Model, Aaron’s Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in Virginia National Guard Dirt Series action. Heading into the last few weeks of racing the championship point battles are heating up. In the Victory Lap Late Models Justin Williams continues atop the standings. Williams rebounded from a disappointing first race in last week’s twins to win the second feature for his seventh overall victory. Victory Lap Late Model top 5: Justin Williams – 1103; John Staton – 1057; Anthony Kincaid – 978; Stephen Childress – 975; Petie Coffey – 966. Since Bobby Thomson took over the points lead in the Aaron’s Pro Late Model division he has never looked back. Held out of victory lane in last weeks twin features Thompson still holds a 57 point lead over Davis Lipscombe with four races to go. Aaron’s Pro Late Model top 5: Bobby Thompson – 1058; Davis Lipscombe – 1001; Neal Hudgins – 998; Chad Martin – 902; Cory Almond – 854. Last week was an interesting week in the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division as defending champion Brett Adkins continued his resurgence from a poor start to the season with his third win of the season and Matt Ashworth picked up his career first win. Sitting just 14 points back in second Jeremiah Marshall will try to gain on Adkins heading into the final four races of the season. Truckin Thunder Sportsman top 5: Brett Adkins – 1151; Jeremiah Marshall – 1137; Hunter Shelton – 1130; Davey Pullen – 1110; Macy Causey – 1058. The one division that may be wrapped up already might be the Budweiser Modifieds. Matt Quade has dominated all year and looked to be on his way to his ninth win of the season when his motor let go in turn 3 on the final lap. That allowed Mike Reynolds to take the sweep of the night. Budweiser Modified top 5: Matt Quade – 1225; Matt Marshall – 1116; Josh Harris – 1099; Joey Polevoy – 1091; Brian Maxey – 1058. In the Collision One Limited Stock Car division a close point battle between Brian Bradley and Brandon Sandridge has emerged over the last few weeks. There have been seven different winners and Bradley holds a 15 point lead over defending champion Sandridge heading into the final four races of the year. Nine Winners in Ten Features on Xtra 99.1 Night

Jamaica, VA – Great weather for Xtra 99.1 Night at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway led to an awesome night of racing with nine different winners in ten features. In the Victory Lap Late Model division twin features both John Staton and Justin Williams dominated on way to their wins. Staton took the lead in the first feature on the opening lap and pulled away from the field surviving a late caution to take his second win of the season. In the second feature Justin Williams battled side by side with Bubba Hubbard taking the lead on lap 2. Once out front Williams dominated the remainder of the distance for his seventh win of the season. Other winners included Walker Arthur (Aaron’s pro Late Model), mark Parks (Aaron’s Pro Late Model), Mike Reynolds (Budweiser Modified) swept both features, Brett Adkins (Truckin Thunder Sportsman), Matt Ashworth (Truckin Thunder Sportsman) picked up his career first, Shawn Otey (Collision One Limited Stock) and James Givens (Collision One Limited Stock). In the first feature for the Victory Lap Late Models Anthony Kincaid and John Staton led the field to green with Staton rocketing to the lead out of turn 2. Staton was on cruise control until the races only caution on lap 12 set up a three lap dash for the win. On the restart once again darted out to a sizeable lead taking his second win on the season. Rounding out the top five were Joe Ender, Billy Tucker, Stephen Childress and Justin Williams. In the second Victory Lap Late Model feature the story was pretty much the same just a different driver dominating. Billy Hubbard and Justin Williams led the field to green. The two raced side by side back to the line with Hubbard leading by inches. As they exited turn 2 on the next lap Williams rocketed off the corner to take control of the top spot. The only thing that was able to slow Williams were the five cautions. On final restart on lap nine Joe Ender tried to get under the leader in turn 1 only to have Williams pull away out of turn 2. Williams would dominate the remaining laps on way to his seventh win of the season. Rounding out the top five were Ender, Walker Arthur, John Staton and Billy Tucker. In the Aaron’s Pro Late Models Mark Parks and Walker Arthur led the field to green for the first 15 lap feature. Arthur would grab the lead out of turn 2 with Tyler Bare following into second. Bare would challenge Arthur on lap 3 but that would be as close as he would get as Arthur turned up the wick and went on to the win followed by Bare point leader Bobby Thompson, Mark Parks and Ricky Wells rounded out the top five. In the second feature for the Aaron’s Pro Late Models Mark Parks jumped out to the lead as they went three wide behind him for second. Tyler Bare and Walker Arthur battled side by side for second with Arthur finally grabbing the spot on lap 8. Caution came out on lap 11 closing the field on Park’s rear bumper. On the restart Arthur peaked to the inside but couldn’t make the pass. Parks would fend off several challenges over the final four laps to take home his second win of the season. Arthur, Bare, Thompson and Ricky Wells rounded out the top five. Lance Grady and Gary Long led the Budweiser Modified division to green with Grady securing the top spot. Grady would lead until he missed his mark in turn 1 and hit the wall ending his night. That handed the lead over to Michael Reynolds for the restart. Remolds would pull away from the field as Matt Marshall and Matt Quade battled side by side for second. That battle allowed Reynolds to pull away and go on to the win. Marshall, Quade, Gary Long and Stephen Quade rounded out the top five. What looked to be a runaway win by point leader Matt Qaude in the second 15 lap feature for the Budweiser Modifieds turned into a two race sweep for Mike Reynolds. Quade and Gary Long led the field to green with Quade taking the lead and pulled away from the field. Quade had worked to a full straight lead when caution would come out on lap 12 setting up a three lap dash for the win. On the restart Quade pulled away by a couple car lengths and looked to be on his way to yet another win. On the final lap Quade’s car had an engine failure allowing Reynolds to cruise by and to his second win of the night. Josh Harris, Matt Quade, Matt Marshall and Brian Maxey rounded out the top five. In the first 15 lap feature for the Truckin Thunder Sportsman Davey Pullen and Brett Adkins led the field to green with Adkins taking the lead out of turn 2. Adkins would pull away from the field with Jeremiah Marshall working to chase him down in traffic. Adkins would dominate and to score his third win of the season. Marshall, Pullen, Hunter Shelton and Matt Ashworth the rounded out the top five. It took two tries to get the second feature for the Truckin Thunder Sportsman underway with Jeremiah Marshall take control of the top spot on the first lap. By lap 4 eighth starting Brett Adkins had worked his way to second and the bumper of Marshall. A caution on lap 5 closed the whole field up on Marshall’s bumper for the restart. On the restart Marshall and Adkins pulled away. On the next circuit Marshall spun in turn 1 with a little help from Adkins sending both drivers to the rear of the field. Davey Pullen led the next lap with James Snead looking to his inside. The two raced side by side into turn 1 with Pullen spinning to bring out the caution. On the restart Snead held control of the lead. On lap 9 Snead’s car pulled up with mechanical issues handing the lead over to Matt Ashworth. Behind the leader Marshall and Adkins had worked their way through the field to second and third. Ashworth would have just enough to hold off Adkins for his career first win at Virginia Motor Speedway. Adkins, Marshall, Carl Vaughan and Macy Causey rounding out the top five. In the first feature for the Collision One Limited Stock Car division Shawn Otey took the lead on the opening lap with Brandon Sandridge and David Bowler in tow. With the battle behind him Otey was able to go on to pick up his second win of the season. Ryan Hutchens, David Bowler, James Givens and Brandon Sandridge rounded out the top five. In the second Collision One Stock Car feature James Givens and David bowler led the field to green with Givens rocketing to a huge lead. Two late cautions allowed Shawn Otey to take several shots at Givens for the lead but Givens was abelto hold on for his fourth win of the season. Rounding out the top five were Brian Bradley, Otey, Ryan Hutchens and Stephanie Stallings. The speedway will be in action next Saturday August 16th to host Chandler Chevrolet Night. Speedway officials and the Virginia National Guard are working to reschedule the “Salute to the Fallen” Tribute Night. J. Williams, Thompson, Quade, Adkins and Givens Claim Victories

Jamaica, VA – A beautiful night and a full moon led to some great racing at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway. What looked to be a great three car battle for the win in the Victory Lap Late Model 25 lap feature turned into a dominating performance by Justin Williams of Shipman, VA. Williams, Tim Shelton and Walker Arthur put on a show for the fans for the first 12 laps until Williams grab control of the top spot and went on to his sixth win of the season. Also getting wins were Bobby Thompson (Aaron’s Pro Late Models), Matt Quade (Budweiser Modified), Brett Adkins (Truckin Thunder Sportsman) and James Givens (Collision One Limited Stock Car). Tim Shelton and John Staton led the Victory Lap Late Models to the green with Shelton leading the first circuit with Walker Arhtur, John Staton and Justin Williams in tow. On lap 3 Arthur and Williams battled side by side for second just off the bumper of Shelton. On lap 8 Shelton got crossed up and almost got run over by Williams and Arthur. Williams was able to take second at the line. On lap 10 Williams got inside Shelton and the two raced side by side with Shelton holding to the lead by inches. On lap12 Williams finally took over the lead. Once out front Williams was able to run his preferred line and pulled away for his sixth win of the season. John Staton, Anthony Kincaid, Petir Coffey and Buck Roadcap rounded out the top five. In the Aaron’s Pro Late Model 25 lap feature Joe Ender and Jimmy Duncan led the field to green with Ender taking the lead with Bobby Thompson in close pursuit. Thompson worked inside Ender out of turn 4 to lead the first lap by inches over Ender. Ender would take back the lead out of turn 2 but Thompson stayed to his inside. The two exchanged the lead a total of 6 times before Thompson took control on lap 18. Daniel Baggerly and Tyler Bare battled for second over the remaining laps allowing Thompson to get away for his third win of the season. Baggerly, Bare, Walker Arthur and Neal Hudgins rounded out the top five. In the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature Matt Quade took over the top spot from Joey Polevoy on lap 14 and then checked out on the field to score his eighth win of the season. Polevoy and Kelly Samuels led the field to green with Polevoy getting the led out of turn 2. Eighth starting Quade methodically worked his way through the field using the restarts on several cautions to perfection. On the lap 12 restart Qaude got inside Polevoy and then finally took the lead on lap 14. Once out front Quade stretched the lead out to over a full straight and to the win. Polevoy, Brian Maxey, Josh Harris and Matt Marshall rounded out the top five. In the Truckin Thunder 25 lap feature Carl Vaughan and Davey Pullen led the field to green with Pullen taking control out of turn 2 for the lead with Junior Carter and Brett Adkins in close pursuit. On lap 5 Adkins got by Carter for second and began closing in on Pullen. On lap 11 Adkins drove around Pullen for the lead. Once out front Adkins cruised to his second win of the season. Matt Ashworth, Junior Carter, Jeremiah Marshall and Timmy Brann rounded out the top five. In caution filled Collision One Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature James Givens held off Brandon Sandridge in a green, white checkered finish for his second win of the season. Chris Maxey and Shawn Otey led the field to green with Otey leading the first circuit. The races first caution came out on the next lap when third running Chris Maxey spun in turn 4 with the rest of the field doing a great job to avoid him. Several more cautions marred the event before the race got into a rhythm. On lap 5 James Givens drove around the outside of Otey for the lead. A late caution led to a tow lap shootout for the win. On the restart Givens was able to hold off Sandridge for the win. Sandridge, Chris Champion, Ryan Hutchens and Chris Maxey rounded out the top five. Twin Feature Night Produces Nine winners in Ten Races

Jamaica, VA – It was a tale of two stories in the Victory Lap Late Model twin features at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway with one driver getting his first win in ten years and the other continuing his domination of the division. In the first feature John Staton of Chesapeake, VA returned to victory lane after a ten year absence, holding off Justin Williams of Shipman, VA for the win. In the second 15 lap feature Justin Williams dominated the event for his fifth win of the season. In the Aaron’s Pro Late Model division Daniel Baggerly of Rural Retreat, VA scored his second win of the season and Joe Ender of Glen Allen, VA picked up his first win in the division. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division James Snead of Fredericksburg, VA picked up his career first victory and Hunter Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA scored his fourth win of the season. And in the Collision One Limited Stock Car division James Givens of Highland Springs, VA went flag to flag to get the win and Shawn Otey of Aylett, VA took over the lead on lap 3 on way to his first win of the season. In the first 15 lap feature for the Victory Lap Late Models John Staton and David Steel led the field to green with Staton taking the lead out of turn 2. On the next circuit Walker Arthur began his assault for the lead. On lap 8 Arthur used a slide job out of turn 4 to take over the top spot. Once out front Arthur began to pull away until a caution on lap 12 when Arthur ran over some debris sending him to the infield with a flat right rear tire handing the lead back to Staton. On the restart Justin Williams powered his way to second and looked inside and outside for a way around Staton. On the final lap Williams tried one last time out of turn 4 but Staton held on to take the win. Williams, Billy Hubbard, Stephen Childress and Buck Roadcap rounded out the top five. In the second 15 lap feature for the Victory Lap Late Models Justin Williams made sure it didn’t come down to the last lap as he took over the top spot from Petie Coffey on lap 2 then dominated the remaining laps to score his fifth win of the season. John Staton, Buck Roadcap, Stephen Childress and Anthony Kincaid rounded out the top five. Daniel Baggerly earned the victory in the first fifteen lap feature for the Aaron’s Pro Late Models as he worked his way from his seventh place starting position to take over the lead on lap 11 and go on to take the win. On the start Tyler Bare took the lead and looked as if he would run away with the win as the rest of the field tussled over the second spot. Baggerly finally muscled his way to second on lap 7 and began to reel in the leader. On lap 10 bare slide up turn 4 just enough to let Baggerly get by for the lead. Once out front Baggerly went unchallenged as he picked up his second win of the season. Walker Arthur, Neal Hudgins, Brad Rigdon and Bobby Thompson rounded out the top five. It took a couple of tries to get the second 15 lap feature for the Aaron’s Pro Late Models under way. Once under green Joe Ender grabbed the lead and looked like he would go unchallenged for the win. A caution with two to go changed that scenario as the field was bunched back on Enders bumper. On the restart Walker Arthur began working on Ender for the lead getting to his outside on the exit of turn 2. At the white flag Ender had both Arthur and Daniel Baggerly within striking distance. As the three exited turn 4 Ender would hold on to take his first win in the division. Arthur, Baggerly, Neal Hudgins and Davis Lipscombe rounded out the top five. James Snead and Davey Pullen led the Truckin Thunder Sportsman to the green in the first 15 lap feature with Snead grabbing the lead out of turn 2. Once out front Snead pulled away from the rest of the field and went flag to flag to score his career first win at Virginia Motor Speedway. In the second 15 lap feature for the Truckin Thunder Sportsman Hunter Shelton grabbed the lead on lap 4 and never looked back dominating the rest of the feature to pick up his fourth win of the season with Junior Carter, Davey Pullen, Brett Adkins and Jeremiah Marshall rounding out the top five. It took seven laps for Matt Quade to take over the lead and once out front Quade set sail to take his sixth win of the season. Joey Polevoy and Brandon Galloway led the field to green with Polevoy grabbing the lead. Quade would work his way to second by the second circuit and started to apply pressure on Polevoy for the lead. Quade tried several times to get inside Polevoy and on lap 6 finally pulled to his inside taking the lead at the line. Once out front Quade pulled away for the win with Polevoy, Brian Maxey, Josh Harris and Matt Marshall rounding out the top five. In the second 15 lap feature for the Budweiser Modifieds it was much of the same as Matt Quade took over the lead from Josh Harris with a pass out of turn 4 to take the lead on lap 6. Once out front Quade pulled away to score his seventh win of the season and for the second time this season he swept both features in one night. Taylor Doggett worked his way up from his fourteenth place starting position to grab second on the last lap with Davey Pullen, Brett Adkins and Hunter Shelton rounded out the top five. In the first 12 lap feature for the Collision One Limited Stock Cars James Givens took the lead on the drop of the green flag and never looked back as he went flag to flag to pick up the win. Shawn Otey, Brandon Sandridge, Brian Bradley and Ben Lowery rounded out the top five. In the second 12 lap feature Shawn Otey took the lead on lap 3 when Andrew Tarbox slowed with mechanical issues. Once out front only a caution on lap 8 could slow Otey. On the final restart Otey pulled away from the field as Brandon Sandridge and James Givens battled for second. Otey would go on to take the win with Sandridge, Givens, Brian Bradley and Ryan Hutchens rounding out the top five. The speedway will take next weekend off so that our staff can celebrate the 4th of July holiday with their families and return to racing on Saturday July 12th for VA National Guard Dirt Series Night. The night will feature the Victory Lap Late Model, Aaron’s Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in Virginia National Guard Dirt Series action. Competitor gates for Saturday July 12th will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm with hot laps and features will start at 8pm. Speedway returns to racing this Saturday June 28th with “Twin Features”

Jamaica, VA – Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will return to racing this Saturday June 28th to host VA National Guard Dirt Series Twin Race Night. After a couple of weeks off racers are anxious to get back to chasing the 2014 division championships. This Saturday night all five of the Virginia National Guard Dirt Series divisions will be competing in a “Twin Race” format. The Victory Lap Late Model, Aaron’s Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions will all race in two features during the evening. Heading into week 7 Justin Williams of Shipman, VA leads the Victory Lap Late Model points; Bobby Thompson of Concord, VA leads the Aaron’s Pro Late Models, Hunter Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA leads the Truckin Thunder Sportsman; Matt Quade of Mechanicsville, MD and Brian Bradley of Hopewell, VA leads the Collision One Limited Stock cars points.
