Billy Hubbard gets first Victory Lap Late Model win in ten years; Jeremiah Marshall gets career first win; Reynolds, Thompson and Curtis also win

Jamaica, VA – It has been ten years since Billy Hubbard of Cobbs Creek, VA tasted victory in the Victory Lap Late Model division at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, the wait is now over. Hubbard, who took several years off from racing, took the lead from Buck Roadcap on lap 8 and then held off a furious charge by Justin Williams to get the win in the Victory Lap Late Model 30 lap feature on Collision One STAR Kids Night presented by MetroCast. Anthony Kincaid and Buck Roadcap led the field to green with Roadcap taking over the top spot. Billy Hubbard would then begin to work on Roadcap for the lead. Hubbard would finally get by on lap 8 for the and then stretched the lead out to almost a straight away before the races only caution for a wreck that involved Troy Williams and John Staton with Staton’s car ending up his roof. Both drivers would be fine. On the restart Hubbard had Justin Williams working the high side trying to get by for the lead. On the final lap Hubbard came up on slower traffic in turn 3 allowing Williams to close in to challenge for the victory but Hubbard was able to hold on for the win. Justin Williams, Tim Shelton, Stephen Childress and Anthony Kincaid rounded out the top 5. In the Aaron’s Pro Late Model feature Corey Almond and Brad Rigdon led the field to green with Almond taking the top spot with Bobby Thompson following in second. Thompson would go to the high side to take the lead from Almond on lap 19. Thompson would then pull away for his first victory at Virginia Motor Speedway. Almond, Joe Ender, Neal Hudgins and Davis Lipscombe rounded out the top five. Josh Harris and Joey Polevoy lead the Budweiser Modified division to green with for their 25 lap feature with Harris the leader. On the next circuit Polevoy would jump outside Harris to take the lead. On lap 14 Mike Reynolds would begin to put pressure on Polevoy for the top spot. For the next six laps the two raced virtually side by side until lap 21 when Polevoy would pull up in turn 4 with mechanical issues. Reynolds would then hold off several challenges by Matt Quade before getting the win. Quade, Matt Marshall, Brain Maxey and Josh Harris rounded out the top five. The caution filled Truckin Thunder Sportsman feature turned out to be one of the best races of the night. Chad Beahr and Junior Carter led the field to green with Carter taking the top spot followed by Jeremiah Marshall in second. The two raced nose to tail for most of distance until Marshall began working the inside of Carter. On lap 20 Marshall took the top spot away from Carter only to give it back the next lap. On the final lap Marshall drove under Carter coming out of turn 4 to get his career first win by .082 seconds at the line. Carter, Hunter Shelton, Carl Vaughan and Michael Hayes rounded out the top five. In his first race of season Bobby Curtis made a huge statement by leading flag to flag to pick up the win in the Collision One Limited Stock division. Curtis took the lead on the drop of the green flag with Shawn Otey following in second. Otey made several attempts to take over the top spot before fading back. Matthew Cook, Stephen Childress and James Givens began a 3-wide battle for second allowing Curtis to pull away for the victory. Givens, Childress, Brian Bradley and Daniel Alford rounded out the top five. Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will take next week off and then move over to the mud bog facility to host the first of two big Mud Bog events for the 2014 season. Saturday June 21st The Pit at Virginia Motor Speedway hosts the 5th Annual Down & Dirty Mud Mayhem presented by James River Equipment, the Virginia National Guard and RedNex Sporting Goods. There will be nine classes of “Mud Maniacs” in action ranging from stock to unlimited with cash payouts in all classes. Speedway returns to racing this Saturday June 7th with Collision One STAR Kids Night presented by MetroCast

Jamaica, VA – Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will return to racing this Saturday June 7th for Collision One S.T.A.R. Kids Night presented by MetroCast. The night will feature the Victory Lap Late Model, Aaron’s Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions in Virginia National Guard Dirt Series action. STAR Kids night is always a special one for the speedway as the children from the Gloucester STAR program visit for a night of racing. Speedway Increases Purse Monies in Four of Five Divisions

Jamaica, VA – In an era when most tracks are decreasing purses officials at Virginia Motor Speedway are pleased to announce that the purse in four of the five tracks Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series divisions is going up. With the early success and growth of the Aaron’s Pro Late Model division officials have introduced a new $800 to win purse for the new division. Purses in the Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Limited Stock divisions have also been increased starting with this weekend’s racing events. The next event at the speedway will be the $10,000 to win 35th Annual TireX USA 100 this coming Saturday May 17th. The night’s events will also include the Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Limited Stock divisions. Record Crowd Sees Nine Different winners in ten races on Twin Feature Night

Jamaica, VA –After a week of rain the Virginia Motor Speedway track staff did an outstanding job in getting the facilities ready for a record breaking crowd on Truckin Thunder Scout Night presented by the Virginia Army National Guard. The massive crowd was treated to some outstanding racing as the night saw nine different winners in ten features. Visiting victory lane were Justin Williams and Jared Powell (Victory Lap Late Models); Mark Parks and Tyler Bare (Aaron’s Pro Late Models); Matt Quade and Mike Reynolds (Budweiser Modifieds); Hunter Shelton (wins both Truckin Thunder Sportsman features); Brian Bradley and Brandon Sandridge (Collision One Limited Stocks). Both Victory Lap Late Model Twins were exciting. In the first 15 lapper Jared Powell and Billy Hubbard led the field to green with Hubbard taking the lead out of turn 2. On lap seven Troy Williams took over the lead with Justin Williams in tow. With Troy Williams on the bottom and Justin Williams up on the cushion the two battled nearly door to door for the next two laps before Justin Williams rocketed to the lead. Justin Williams held off a final challenge from Tory Williams with two laps to go to go to score the win. In the second feature for the Victory Lap Late Models Powell and John Staton led the field to green this time Powell took the top spot and pulled to a three car advantage on the field. It took eighth starting Justin Williams to use the cushion again to make his way to second. Once in the runner-up spot he began putting pressure on Powell for the lead. With two to go Williams pulled to the outside of Powell in turn 1 only to have the door shut. Williams would not give up and road the cushion in turns 3 and 4 to pull even as the two came to the white. The two raced side by side all the way back to the checkers with Powell holding on at the line by .048 seconds. In the Aaron’s Pro Late Models Neal Hudgins and David Puckett led the field to green with it going four wide into turn 2. When the smoke cleared it was Hudgins with the lead. His run at the front was short lived as third generation driver Tyler Bare took the lead on lap 2. Bare looked to be in control with Daniel Baggerly, Mark Parks, Bobby Thompson all within striking distance. Coming out of turn 4 Bare’s ride pushed up the track allowing Parks to get by and go on for the win with Thompson on his bumper for second. In the second feature for the Aaron’s Pro Late Models Bare and Baggerly would lead the field to green with Bare taking the lead out of turn 2. Bare would lead flag to flag but would have to hold off a late charge by Baggerly to take his first career win at Virginia Motor Speedway. In qualifying Baggerly set a new division track record with a lap of 18,488 seocnds breaking his week old mark. In the first Budweiser Modified twin Mike Reynolds and Joey Polevoy led the field to green with Reynolds securing the top spot. Reynolds would have Matt Quade trying multiple lines over the next ten laps trying to get by for the lead. On lap 10 Quade used the cushion in turn 1 to get by Reynolds for the lead and would go on to the win. In the second Budweiser Modified feature it was all Mike Reynolds as he started on the pole and led every lap in dominating fashion to get the win with Joey Polevoy holding off matt Quade for second. It was the same story in both Truckin Thunder Sportsman features as Hunter Shelton held off fierce challenges from Brett Adkins to take home both features. In the second twin Shelton had to come from eighth to get the win. In the first Collision One Limited Stock Car Brian Bradley inherited the lead with leader Matthew Cook came to the pits under a caution with mechanical problems. Once out front Bradley was able to hold off David Bowler and Andrew Tarbox for the win. In the second twin Chad Champion led the first three laps before Brandon Sandridge took the spot away with a strong pass out of turn 2. Once out front Sandridge kept a comfortable lead all the way to the checkers with Tarbox closing for second. The speedway will take next Saturday May 10th off to celebrate Mother’s Day and return to racing Saturday May 17th for the $10,000 to win 35th Annual TireX USA 100 featuring the Ultimate Super Late Model Series. Twin Features for all Five Divisions this Saturday May 3

Jamaica, VA – Virginia Motor Speedway will return to racing this Saturday May 3rd to host Truckin Thunder Scout Night presented by the Virginia Army National Guard. The night will feature the “Twin Race” format for the Victory Lap Late Model, Aaron’s Pro Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified and Collision One Limited Stock Car divisions. The night will also feature the 3rd Annual Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby. Gates will open at 3pm for registration with the Dirtwood National Pinewood Derby starting at 4pm. The Virginia Army National Guard will also have a “Pit Crew” Challenge set up under the grandstands for all in attendance to participate. Competitor gates for Saturday May 3rd will open at 3pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm. On track activities will begin at 6:30pm for hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday: Victory Lap Late Models (Twin 15 Laps); Aaron’s Pro Late Models (Twin 15 laps); Budweiser Modifieds (Twin 15 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (Twin 15 laps) and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars (Twin 12 laps). 3rd Annual Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby and Scout Night Saturday May 3rd

Jamaica, VA – If you have ever been involved in a pinewood derby you know how exciting it is not only for the kids but for the adults. Saturday May 3rd Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will bring that excitement and fun to the speedway as it hosts the 3rd Annual Truckin Thunder Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby presented by the Virginia Army National Guard. “We are extremely excited to host this event and to help raise money and awareness for ChildHelp. Virginia Motor Speedway Releases 2014 Schedule

Jamaica, VA – The tentative 2014 schedule for Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway has been released and includes 12 weeks of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action, three special events and two mud bogs. During the 12 weeks of Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series action the speedway will feature six nights of the very popular twin race format that was utilized during the past two seasons. The track’s always competitive weekly divisions begin their race for the division Championships and the Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series Championship on Saturday April 19th and end with the final point’s race of the season on Saturday September 13th. This year’s division line-up will once again include the Victory Lap Late Models, Aaron’s Pro Late Models, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modifieds and the Collision One Limited Stock Cars. Opening up the 2014 season will be the Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth and feature the first ever visit by the National Dirt Racing League (NDRL). The one day $20,000 event is expected to bring some of the nationals top super late model drivers back to the Commonwealth of Virginia for what will be one of the best races of the year. Returning for 2014 will be the Ultimate Super Late Model Series on Saturday May 17th as they sanction the 35th Annual USA 100. For the first time in 2014 the speedway will host the Super Bowl of Pro Late Model racing, the $20,000 to win Fastrak World Championship on October 2-4th. Along with the weekly racing action and the special events the speedway will also host two mud bogs at its state of the art mud bog facility that will be celebrating its tenth year of racing. On Saturday June 21st The Pit at VMS will host the 5th Annual Mud Mayhem and on Saturday October 11th the 10th Annual Run-A-Muck Mud Bog and Mud Sling presented by James River / Rappahannock Tractor and the Virginia Army National Guard.
