Jamaica, VA – Bill Sawyers Virginia Motor Speedway wrapped up the 2011 season by recognizing the top ten in each of the track’s divisions with special attention reserved for the 2011 champions. During the night’s events almost $34,000 in cash and prizes were awarded, of that almost $28,000 was in cash. This year’s championships saw two familiar faces and two drivers picking up career first championships.

Scott Adams of Chester, VA was crowned the Victory Lap Late Model Champion for the second consecutive year and received a check for $5,000 for his efforts. Adams also received an invitation to the Rocket Chassis Race Wise Chassis School, a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket.

Rounding out the top ten in Victory Lap Late Model points were David Williams of Clements, MD; Kenny Moreland of Waldorf, MD; Derrick Quade of Mechanicsville, VA; Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA;Davis Lipscombe of Mechanicsville, VA; Matt Marshall of Stuarts Draft, VA; Andy Gregg of Portsmouth, VA; Alan Anderson of Norfolk, VA and Brandon Long of Mechanicsville, MD.

Todd Traylor of King William, VA was crowned the Truckin Thunder Sportsman Champion and received a check for $1,000 for his efforts. It was his career first championship. Traylor also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket.

Rounding out the top ten in Truckin Thunder points were 2010 Champion Roger Jamerson of Mechanicsville, VA; Stephen Childress of ST. Stephens Church, VA; Tony Wood of Providence Forge, VA; Junior Carter of Mechanicsville, VA; J.R. Guy of Mechanicsville, MD; Davey Pullen of New Kent, VA; Bubba Holloway Jr. of Quinton, VA; Wayne Carroll of Fredericksburg, VA; and Roy Skaggs of Sandston, VA.

Dan Arnold of Petersburg, VA was crowned the 2011 Budweiser Modified Champion and received a check for $1,000 for his efforts. It was his third consecutive championship in the division. Arnold also received a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket.

Rounding out the top ten in Budweiser Modified points were Brian Maxey of King George, VA; 2005 Champion Page Harrison of Jetersville, VA; Curtis Barricks of Chester, VA; John Ferguson of Gloucester, VA; Chris Arnold of Petersburg, VA; Brandon Galloway of Gloucester, VA; Aaron Harris of Chester, VA; James Jesse of Spotsylvania, VA; and Charlie Hubbard of Chesapeake, VA.

Wesley Givens of Mechanicsville, VA won the Collision One Limited Stock Car Championship. The Championship was Given’s first ever championship in any division. Givens received a check for $700, a $500 certificate from the Joie of Seating, a custom calendar from Al Goulder Photography and his Championship helmet trophy and jacket.

Rounding out the top ten in Collision One Limited Stock Car points were Joe Ender of Glen Allen, VA; 2010 Champion Ryan Toole of Richmond, VA; Brandon Coates of Tappahannock, VA; Ricky Douglas of Fredericksburg, VA; Brandon Sandridge of New Kent, VA; 2009 Champion Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA; Thomas Rose of Gloucester, VA; David Bowler of Gloucester, VA; and Ryan Hutchens of Providence Forge, VA.

The speedway also crowns an overall Virginia Army National Guard Dirt Series Champion which pits all four divisions against each other and in the closest battle in the six year history of the championship Truckin Thunder Champion Todd Traylor of King William, VA beat out Victory Lap Late Model Champion Scott Adams and Budweiser Modified Champion Dan Arnold to take the overall championship and the $2000 check and special eagle trophy that goes along with it.

Special achievement award winners for the 2011 season included: The Pitts Lumber Rookies of the Year were Kenny Moreland of Waldorf, MD in Victory Lap Late Models; Junior Carter of Mechanicsville, VA in Truckin Thunder Sportsman; Aaron Harris of Chester, VA in Budweiser Modifieds and Ben Lowry of Mechanicsville, VA in the Collision One Limited Stock Car division. Each winner received a plaque and $250.

The speedway’s 2012 schedule of events is expected to be released in a couple of weeks after some fine tuning. The season is scheduled to start Saturday March 31st with an open practice. This year’s $25,000 to win Commonwealth 100 will be sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and will run April 13-14, 2012 with a Sunday April 15th rain date. The Ultimate Super Late Model Series is scheduled to return on Saturday May 19th for a $10,000 to win event and the 2012 season ender will be the 33rd Annual USA 100 that will now pay $20,000 to win an become a two day show September 14 – 15th, with a Sunday Sept. 16th rain date established.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is a 1/2-mile, dirt oval. The track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
